Try A Little Tenderness
If selected, his physicality and ability in the air (something he was credited for when he came on in the AFCON final) will be important for us on Saturday.
What will you do if he doesn't meet your expectations then?Last chance for him v Luton for me

We are crying out for a player who can carry the ball forward, play incisive balls and be able to put a foot on the ball under pressure. (see Ross Barley)

Freuler was played out of position in a system and playing a style of football that he’s not effective for.Everyone slagged off Freuler last year, too because everybody expects a foreign big name to do everything.
Problem is, they won't, unless we have a spare 60m and Champions League football.
But what Freuler did, Mangala did, and Sangare looks capable of doing when he's fit, is keep hold of the ball and be available to receive the ball when others are in trouble. We really, really miss that in the side at the moment.
His career hasn’t really got started yet. At some point we need to get a settled core of a side without changing umpteen players every game. If we ever get that he should be in the frame but it’s just been stop start since he got here.Last chance for him v Luton for me
personally, I'm not shit canning him. I am stating that he needs to start showing his worth sharpish though. He’s played 30 minutes for us since Boxing Day. I thought he was ok before that. Gets the benefit of the doubt for me for now.
It seems shit-canning players after five minutes then complaining about squad turnover is all part of the fun though, so have at it if you think it helps.
It’s not unreasonable to expect him to play well on Saturday if selected, no. But equally it’s massively unfair to have him in the last chance saloon. He’s started one match for us since the clusterfuck at Fulham at the start of December, which we won, quite handily.personally, I'm not shit canning him. We're in a mess, he cost 30m+, he's one of the players we have at the start of their footballing prime, and he's been here over half a season now.
If expecting someone like that to deliver a 7 or 8/10 performance to beat a club like Luton, who are nackard and on a low, is too demanding, then God help us because that's like the bare minimum we need to stay up.
Mangala played most weeks last season and only really fulfilled his promise (ie appeared to have adapted) this season.I'm not talking just game time, I'm talking time spent training and adjusting to the culture here.
No-one gets literally half a season of game time to adapt. You think a player is gonna play 19 90-min games here just to get up to speed? Seriously? You think a team can afford to carry that?
Most players will get the 20-30 min here and there, and then the odd 90. Usually in cup games and then building into league games if it allows. 10 games worth of game time seems about right to start expecting something from him for me.
Sangaré won't be given anywhere near that time by many because of his price tag.Mangala played most weeks last season and only really fulfilled his promise (ie appeared to have adapted) this season.

Mangala was only 24 when we signed him. Still developing, not peaking. Nothing to do with the price tag.Sangaré won't be given anywhere near that time by many because of his price tag.

Sangare was 25 when we signed him. Turned 26 in December. But yeah, put him in an entirely different category from 24-year-old Mangala. Honestly the amount of reaching you do to defend an argument Alf, your arms must be ten foot longMangala was only 24 when we signed him. Still developing, not peaking. Mangala had played for three seasons in the Bundesliga, an intense level of football.Sangare was 25 when we signed him. But yeah, put him in an entirely different category from 24-year-old Mangala. Honestly the amount of reaching you do to defend an argument Alf, your arms must be ten foot long
Fully agree, which is why it's only fair to allow Sangare the same amount of time to adjust that we granted Mangala - ie a full season, not 12 games. Even if he was a year older on the day he signed or has different colour hair or something.Mangala had played for three seasons in the Bundesliga, an intense level of football.
Sangaré played in the Eredivise, a more technical league, but nowhere near the intensity of the Premier League or the Bundesliga. I think the pace of the English game has caught him out a bit, which is why when he has been played by Forest, it is mostly in a role playing further forward than he did for PSV (and internationally) because it seemed when he was given the holding role, the game passed him by a bit.
Breaking my promise of no more posts to add that hair wise I wish he didn't have that highlighted streak - that and his height/languid style give me poundshop Pogba vibes. I've been holding back on that for months.„Pound Shop Pogba!“
