To me, that reads as 10-12 million in total for both players. So averaging out at 6 mill each?

Edit: ok, re-read and HT want 12 million for just O'Brien, we want both for that price. It sounds like 14 would get the deal done. Haven't seen anything of them other than our matches, so no real opinion on how useful they'd be. Is O'Brien a likely midfield performer at PL level or more bench depth?

O'Brien looks a player but I think it would foolish to buy him thinking he was coming in to run the midfield next season. He's still fairly young and has no PL experience, so similar to Yates in some ways. I would hope that both of them were supplemented in the squad with at least one player who's played in the top flight either here or abroad before.

I'm rather hoping that the club are feeding journos information about deals already talked about, whilst doing business on the quiet on other players.

Because we need others apart from the ones which are reported on daily and even those are hardly going to set the world on fire or even the CG turf. Toffolo sounds OK and I suppose you can make a case for buying him, but not one to set my pulse racing, for instance.

We need 2 signings a week (including this week) from now until 6th to have a squad ready for Newcastle imo. Ideally you have them in for the end of the month if they have any shot of starting week 1.

Have to think there are many irons in the fire to getvto that point, with us patiently waiting to make our “official” move on each

He's a player with very solid championship stats (including 14 goal contributions I think?) on a team that was 2 goals away from being in the premier league. I'm very happy to have that as squad depth in case of injury (or relegation, womp) and think it's a great, if slightly unexciting piece of business

Arguably the best left back in the Championship last year for 2.5m when the best right back is touted for nearly 20m? Bargain of the summer. A no brainer. Get him signed up ASAP.

Also, his attacking stats in terms of Assists/Goals were superior to our Middlesbrough-owned RWB last season. 6 Goals and 7 Assists in 42 games, compared with 2 goals and 5 asssists for Djed. I agree it's a no-brainer.

Djed had a great impact on games but his goal contribution was poor overall for the positions he found himself in. I can hardly even remember him putting many crosses in? He played as a winger most games.

I don’t recall his final ball being that bad either, but there just seemed to be a limited goal threat considering his overall threat.

His job was to move the ball up field and push the game's centre-of-gravity closer towards the opposition's goal to give our attackers more chances.

That explosive energy he had with his ball retention skills gave you 30-40 yards in the build up.

Presumably this is why cooper prefers Williams as he will probably still get in those positions but his passing, crossing ability is better. Obviously he’s not as quick though.

Hopefully we get that on the other side with richards this year

Yeah I don't disagree, but I would have liked to have seen a better goal output for how dangerous he actually was.

I wasn't worried about his goal output. My view was that he had Brennan in front of him, and if there was a risk to be taken I'd rather he take it.

My only criticism of Djed was that sometimes he'd run into a space that you'd want Brennan into which left Brennan to go wide and made an attack on goal harder.

Will be interesting to see how it works with Williams.

Not in their friendly squad this afternoon, 'ITK' bloke on the Hudds forum reckons he was pulled from the team late on.
Who doesn’t enjoy getting pulled-off on a sunny Saturday afternoon?
