Championship leaders Nottingham Forest are poised to allow defender Greg Halford join Bolton Wanderers on loan with the deal expected to go through on Thursday.
Forest boss Stuart Pearce has decided the 29-year-old former Sunderland and Wolves right-back is surplus to requirements at The City Ground with Jack Hunt, Eric Lichaj, Danny Fox and Dan Harding all ahead of him in the pecking order.

I guess its a sign of the times, a marked move up in quality, always liked Halford though, played with passion. Wish him the best of luck.

Good move all round. He's a useful utility player at times and has been a decent player for us, but I'm not sure he's the right sort of character that Pearce wants (not to mention the right sort of ability).

It's been hard on him, playing so many different positions, I was at the Leeds home match, he played up front and played really well, I think he picked up the man of the match award.
However up front we have to fantastic new signings.
At right back we are covered, so a loan move makes sense, good luck to him, met him once and thought he was a nice bloke.
Good luck Greg, versatility sometimes comes at a cost.

totally agree with the comments he as been a victim of our incredible transfers this close season, always put a shift in but just not good enough for the new regime

Greg would be the ideal man to have on the bench in the days of only 3 subs. However nowadays you can afford to have specialists.

I always thought him to be a decent player.
I think that we can see a clear difference in aspiration and approach to players with SP - he wants quality and a winning attitude.
SPs predecessor seemed to have no eye for quality.
I think Halford will do well for Bolton - they are in a bit of a decline, and the higher places in the Championship, let alone Premiership aspirations, are now only remote memories.
Mrs S has an affection for Bolton, having been born there, so we always look out for their results and performances.

As others have alluded to, it's a case of our squad getting better rather than Halford getting worse that has caused him to become surplus to requirements.

It was only at the turn of the year when people were telling me he would hit double figures last season. He never scored again.

Good luck to him. I liked him as a player for us, and as others have said it's a sign of the increase in quality of the squad that he's now not part of it.

I don't think Halford's ability is in question. He's a decent player, capable of filling in multiple roles. I agree with Zeus though, I think he's been given the green light to move based on his personality more than anything. We're creating a team which works for each other. I also think his wage packet may be greater than his squad status.

Good player but not better than we currently have. Shows how much we have improved since last season.

Always puts a shift in?

Last year when we conceded he was one of the first players to lose interest and start moaning. (Another was Henderson).

One game I remember is when we conceded and the. The left winger torn him a new one as he lost interest!

Gutted about this, but in a similar position to what I said about the heartbreaking loss of McGugan the other season, it's best for all parties. He apparently doesn't fit into the squad at the moment and where as he'd be 1st choice or 2nd choice in some positions he's now 3rd or 4th choice, so also for him personally it'll be nice for him to get some game time.

A victim of his versatility much like Perch was.
The cover is now so good that we have out grown him. One thing he does do is provide a physical presence in both boxes which we perhaps lack slightly on occassions without him.
