It makes perfect sense to Scarpa. He has the chance to play in the Champions League, and get a taste of European football. Outside of the games superstars (who just expect to be there), pretty much every player would jump at the chance to have that experience. Also, it gives him a chance to transition (somewhat) to playing in England and dealing with European fall/winter weather. It also gives Forest 6 months or so to gel before he joins, which should make his transition a bit easier. For me, this is a well thought out scenario--and we end up with a guy on the fringes of the Brazilian national team.

i mean seriously it doesn't make sense at all.

first of all his managers uploaded this story

which shows clearly that his destination is Greece

furthermore to play with us after January in case we are still in UCL is complete nonsense

that means that we have to be in the UCL 16 phase. MOST unlikely.

I would assume that if you did indeed make the knockout stage - it would suggest that the squad was already working very well together and so there's no guarantee that a newcomer would even feature.

Can't see how this deal makes sense for either club. Maybe at a stretch if he was 20-21 and a long term project, but not for someone who at his age should be the finished article.

I have to think that there's some misreporting going on here, that seems far more likely than this bizarre clause.

Well neither club has announced anything so that must say something. Does anyone recognise the people in the photos?

the only sense that this could have is to have him sign to you for FFP reasons and then loaned to us with an obligatory buy-in option next summer. nothing else makes any sense.

I just talked to an Paraguayan buddy of mine (Cerro Porteno fan) and he says he is a great player with a very heavy left footed shot.

i know and if you had the chance to watch him playing this is pretty obvious. that's why we are interested in him for some time. i still don't believe that he has anything to do with NFFC unless it's for FFP reasons

If he joins (either club) in January, it's a free transfer, and so the only FFP impact would be his wages (which one of the reports said will be less than he was offered to stay in South America) - are Olympiacos likely to be that close to the limit that a moderate wage could put them over?

Aside from that - while there's been transfers and loans between the two clubs previously, all of them have held up to scrutiny. I'm not convinced either team would do something so obviously aimed at bypassing the rules.

i agree with you in general but idk what's the reason for this. if it's true. i don't even know if that's a way to accommodate managerial costs which for players from South America sometimes are high.

truly i am trying to rationalize this somehow making bs assumptions i think

anyway. at the end of the day, those that take care the finances are more competent from us and it is not necessary to know all the bits and pieces of this

I understand nothing other than the fact that there is, quire understandably, an uproar over here.

For what it's worth he's signing for us according to Wikipedia...

I must say I'd be wary of signing older players from South America, even Brazil. The continent is a selling one to Europe mainly and if player hasn't been picked up by a European club until he's 28 then there's probably a reason why...

No I thought as much, it could have serious ramifications for both of us just to save a few quid

No, it couldn't. If the deal is as reported, you sign a player, you loan him to us. It is perfectly legal. But it is extremely demeaning to us, because the player was our main target, and because other than the signing fee the player would cost us nothing, so there is no reason why he should not belong to us.

Hence the uproar. And Greek uproar can get very loud and ugly.
