Hmmm he is saying we will sign him when he’s a free agent but Brazil’s Serie A doesn’t finish until like Christmas, so doesn’t help us in the meantime

Strange info. His managers made this story, implying he is coming to Greece. We are expecting him to sign for us

I hope he has confused the two EM clubs, because I may have to change my answer to the question about resentment amongst Oly fans about Forest. Scarpa is widely reported (even today) over here to have concluded a deal with us.

Don't really see the point in this; he wouldn't be here for the start of the season, and we have no idea if he'll be what we need come January. At 28, he's not exactly one for the future either.

Probably best for all concerned that he goes to Olympiacos rather than here.

I can't speak Portuguese, dunno if anyone here can? This guy seems to be saying we're signing Scarpa, he's got over a million followers on Twitter, think he's a sports presenter in Brazil:

He said Scarpa has signed for us on a pre-contract and will join when his contract expires in December. 3 and a half year deal. Good signing for Forest because Scarpa is a baller/great player etc.

Edit: looking at his twitter, he also said Willian Arao to Fenerbahce was done and would be announced on Monday or Tuesday, so maybe one to keep an eye on to gauge his reliability? Although this is widely being reported as done already. He (Back) is a fairly big sports presenter in Brazil.

Edit edit: corrected name of second player

Uh oh, not sure it will go down well with Oly fans but if he does end up here it would definitely fix our set piece issues. He's what you would consider a set piece specialist

I agree. Although he's a good player, I don't think he seems like the kind of player we'd sign so I fully expect him to sign for you guys.

Could he get a work permit in the UK under your arcane post-Brexit laws? He has an Italian passport if that makes any difference.

Should be very good for Olympiacos tbf.

Without trying to work out the exact numbers, at first glance at his recent stats it looks like he could. Playing good minutes in the Copa Libertadores helps hugely.

Someone else can run the numbers but my loose estimate is that across all categories he'd get about 16-18 points total (with 15 needed).

A few Brazilian outlets reporting that he's coming to us now. Some even saying he's signed a 4 year contract and that there might be an agreement that he goes to Oly for Champions League:

"Although there was even a conversation for renewal, Scarpa has a dream of working in Europe. Verdao even signaled with a higher salary than the one paid by Nottingham Forest, but the player wants to fulfill the desire to have an experience in European football.

In the beginning, Olympiakos, from Greece, was the main player in the midfielder – the club has the same owner as Nottingham, Evangelos Marinakis. But over the course of the talks, the English team became the favorite and the pre-contract was agreed.

There is, however, the following agreement: if Olimpiacos are going to play in the Champions League next season, Scarpa has the possibility of choosing to play in Greece for six months to play in the tournament. The contract signed, however, was with Nottingham Forest."

We'll see what happens I suppose. It's a strange one for us; picking up a player in their late 20s who has never played in Europe doesn't fit the MO.

We've got the financial clout to sign players and loan them to Olympiakos without it killing us financially.
Now that we're the larger club in terms of finances, I'm sure it makes sense from the owner's perspective.

That six month agreement part sounds mental though. Can't believe it's true.

If he signed for Forest, and arrived in January with the knowledge that this time next year he might say "Right, I'm off to play in Europe, see you in six months", it'd massively hurt any chance he had to make an impact at the club. The club couldn't plan around his presence so he'd be effectively seen as a loan, except with an extra stigma attached.
