I think it's simply because we failed to buy properly in the Summer (you could say 2 Summers really considering the attacking depth were poor for AK too) and the best opportunity to go up we've had in ages is there staring us right in the face.

It's also probably a nod to being in a position, for once, to push on.

We haven't sacked our manager and aren't in need of some quick panic buys to steady the ship. For once.

I’m alright with a six month loan and a 12 month contract. It won’t break the bank and it’s not long term like with Murphy.

He has 53 goals in 135 games in all comps since rejoining Brighton (25 in the Premier League in 2 seasons) and before this season played the majority of league games available, looks like he only missed about 4. He's getting on but he's clearly kept himself in good shape, I'd guess its only the change in manager that's seen him drop out this season.

It's about getting the best player for the role we want him to play.
We're not going to likely play two up top. Whoever is coming here is going to also play second fiddle to Grabban.

That to me rules out Gayle. You don't bring Dwight Gayle to your team on 50 grand a week if he's not your main man.
That also rules out Eddie Nketiah, he needs games and he's just been through a similiar situation at Leeds.

I can't see Sharp leaving Sheffield United. Kodjia might be an option, but ultimately I think Murray plays more games for us than Kodjia is able to.

Essentially you want someone that a) can hold up the ball and run the clock down and b) has the knack of being in the right place, right time to nick you a goal.
That's Glenn Murray in a nutshell.

It is if your central midfield aren't set up to supply & your wingers cant cross the ball.
Exactly, Mase. Two up top would not see us score more goals, it would see us conceded more. Unless we also sort out the central midfield and wingers.

As Dizzy stated for a team that plays 1 up top, then this is the most realistic type of striker we can afford/get. He has a good goal record in the Prem and offers something we don't have in a target man. As long as his body doesn't collapse like Murphy's did then it will be a sound short term acquisition. An 18 month contract is fine and allows us to focus on bringing in quality pacey wingers in the summer should we not go up as the attack 3 of Grabbs, Murray and Walker will be sufficient.

A massive risk with his age though and we've recently been bitten by a similar physical striker (although he was on drugs at the time) and hopefully Murray is more professional.
