Exactly my thinking too, 6 month on loan at Forest only appeals if he really wants to be playing more football and have a last chance at some glory rather than sitting back and taking his last 6 months of Premier League wages (which at 36 who could blame him) but an 18 month deal gives him an extra season guaranteed at a decent level if he isn't ready to give it up yet, plus a signing bonus.

He’ll be getting his wages for the next six months no matter where he plays, and I imagine clubs still pay players a signing fee for a loan as well as a loan fee to the ‘selling’ club.

If Potter has said he can go if he wants to go, I imagine he’ll be going. Managers don’t come out and publicly state that their players can leave unless they’re almost definitely leaving.

On the signing - I think Murray on a 6 month loan is a perfect bit of business for us. We need a back up option with quality up front, and we need to spend some money for a quality starter on the wings.

Either way I'd take him just don't think he's as likely to go on a 6 month loan when his contract expires in summer unless he's planning on retiring in the summer anyway and does want one more shot at some glory.

For me 18 months is fine, anything more and we're into the realms of offering stupid contracts to old players.

I would be very happy with Murray as he's exactly what we need. You would trust him in a key game with Grabban out and despite us being a pressing team, the striker doesn't do most of the work - they just cut the passing lanes and he can do that.

Going by the Potter article, it would seem Murray is after more playing minutes this season so the latter is probably true.

Could maybe offer a 12 month contract on a first refusal basis if he decides to keep playing next year.

I'd take Murray, as long as we don't give him a Daryl Murphy contract. He's a much better footballer than Juke, IMO.

He was banging them in at the start of last season and should have been in the England squad imo. I'd be happy with him, scored a shit ton in this league.

Murray wouldn't be a good signing for us.

We need to be looking at younger players looking to make the step up, rather than Premier League veterans.

Respectfully disagree.

You are turning your nose up at someone who has been a consistent goalscorer throughout his career, he is by all accounts a good egg in the dressing room, has scored goals at this level multiple times, offers us something completely different, would likely be a short term loan till the end of the season.

January isn't the time (for me) to start throwing serious money around because teams aren't going to let it good players go cheap.

Exactly, The January window is a loan window for out of favour players/youngsters unless you are buying from abroad. You buy properly in the summer.

I still don't understand why people expect us to make big money signings in January. It barely happens at any club in this league, never mind Forest.

Glenn Murray on loan until the end of the season would be an ideal short term signing that wouldn't break the bank. We can then spend money on a permanent addition in the summer.

Money doesn't matter we just have to be smart with it. Look at our recruitment over the summer, we didn't spend much but we have signed key players that are playing a big part this season.

I agree.

Samba was £2m I think, Ribeiro was free (but with a 50% sell on clause), Silva £1m and Sow was £600k. Four of our first choice XI right there for less than £4m. We definitely need to be more savvy in the loan market, but we've done relatively well spending modestly.

I'm not overly concerned how much a player costs as long as they improve us.

Think he'd be a very decent signing. He's been there and done it in this league in very similar positions to where we find outselves now.

Even if he didn't play loads, just seems he'd be a good person to have around.

I would caveat this with the fact we'd still need to go out and get some attacking players with pace to play off him. But could I see him coming on with 30 to go and changing the course of a game, or even filling in in a tough away game - absolutely.

We need to be looking at anyone, regardless of age, who can get us there in the first place.

I think he’s a quality championship striker and I’m not being snooty just I really don’t think our style would suit him. I think he would struggle having to pick the ball up from so deep and break with pace. If we played like we did under Karanka with Carvalho in behind I think he would have been perfect.

I think it's simply because we failed to buy properly in the Summer (you could say 2 Summers really considering the attacking depth were poor for AK too) and the best opportunity to go up we've had in ages is there staring us right in the face.

Supply line is poor, Grabbans experience has been key to finding his own way up front. Murray has decent feet, plus an aerial presence that gives us an option to stay out wide given the lack of penetration centrally.

He's a much better fit than a young kid finding his way in a team thats very hit & miss with the service.

If he's kept himself fit and comes with a good attitude then we should go after him - he knows the league, has played at a higher level.
