I’m not sure people are writing him off so much as trying to find his role in the squad.

As a right footed defender he is likely limited to RB, RCB and CCB. Assuming talk of Niakhate is correct from Daniel Taylor, he would have to beat out Worrall or McKenna for a CB role.

With that being unlikely, it leaves RB where his stats are a little less impressive and his top flight french experience is more limited

Interesting looking at his transfer market profile he seemed to spend the latter part of last season playing RCB in a back three, with Kabore next to him as the right wing back. Seems to me to be ideal cover for Worrall, but with the flexibility to cover full back positions as well if needed.

He's a young player who can cover multiple positions (he's also played left back). Perhaps not an automatic starter, but over the course of the season he'd be a very handy player to have in the squad.

Exactly. People need to realise while a good starting XI is necessary, we can't splash in every single area and we need good backups too. It's no good having a decent starting XI but a dross bench with no options to being on. You need impact subs too.

Oh for sure, think I said the same thing that he is an ideal and valuable bench player. Don’t think that’s writing him off, just being realistic about opportunity in the current set up

Perhaps he means in the [insert random foreigner name here] nature of the deal.

I must admit I had a similar first thought but my brain has been hard-coded over the years to just assume any unknown foreigner signing for us will either never play before going to Greece or be a complete waste of time.

He’s one year in to a five year contract. I’ve got no idea what that means other than he must be be worth buying out of that length deal, albeit with an unknown cost. I like these deals and you have to wonder whether it means Kabore is virtually done and already on board with the vision. I also wonder whether we’re having too much of a love in with Cooper/Dane and assuming everything they touch turns to gold, but then I remember what’s happened for the last nine months.

In summary, get him in. I think.

i love these type of threads. the first like 10 comments are skeptical because of the randomness of the name. then the next 10 is like “bro wait look at all this DATA that backs him up”.

idc bro just fill out squad with decent hard working talent and let Cooper do his magic.

If you get someone like Neco Williams as RB, his substitute will have little chance to appear. It therefore makes sense to bring in someone who's both a RB and a RCB. Assuming Niakhate signs, your starters would be Worrall, McKenna, Niakhate, with Cook and Biancone (with the later also covering the RB position) as the two defenders on the bench (remember that with nine on the bench now you need at least two defenders on the bench). Mbe Soh and Panzo will be waiting for the chance in case of injury and cards.

Ah, and transfermarkt has him as left-footed although he plays primarily as RCB and RB. This makes him an ideal bencher for the defence.
