Subbuteo ruled in my house from 1969 until 1979 when the football got really interesting. I still have several teams in a box in the garage, some sell on ebay for absurd prices these days.

I used to love Subbuteo.

I had the whole shebang, stands, floodlights, police horses, 'electronic' (read: bits of paper with 'electronic' print) scoreboard, standard nets, box nets and Wembley nets, advertising hoardings, everything.

Must have cost a small fortune.

One of my over riding memories as a child is going to the local toy shop, a place called Ramsdens, which is still there to this day. It was one of those places that sold everything, supermarket, curtains, carpets, toys etc.

Anyway, I recall the toy department was upstairs, and was absolutely brilliant. They had a huge Subbuteo section with every conceivable thing in it. My mums friend used to work there, so we got some discount, which meant I could get things on a more regular basis.

Unrelated, but in the same shop. I remember one year some family coming to visit. We went to Ramsdens and we were each given £5 to buy something with. A couple of my cousins (one famous, one his sister) got into an argument, as one of them wanted something that cost more than £5, but couldn't get it unless he negotiated a loan from the other half of the ten pound note they'd been given.

I can't remember exactly how it turned out, but I do remember some serious tantrums being thrown!

::) there was also a subbutteo streaker lol..!
I've still got all my subbutteo stuff safely tucked away somewhere..about 15 teams.. 2 forest ones.. The late 80s kit with the red n black bits on the shorts and then the pinstripe job from the mid 90s!
I remember the one year at school we had a big subbutteo league going and we'd go round with our teams to each others houses playing our fixtures! My mate had the germany team from the early 80s and he attacked them with the old airfix paints and gave them all funky moustaches and hair styles!
