Fin Back’s Back

Once again, I fail to understand what benefit you will have from sending three leagues down the ladder a young player who was considered almost first team material last year.
I assume you've had this answer before - Assuming he starts, then he'll play far more minutes than he could in the U23s, and in a much more physical and competitive environment.

Not sure that he was almost first team material last year - the few times he did play, he looked to be muscled out of the game - which is exactly the kind of thing he'll learn to adapt with in League Two.

Yeah he was in the first team because we had no one else, not because he was seen as being ready necessarily. He didn't even make the bench once we signed other right backs.

He was only near the first team because we didn't have other RWB options available. He looked a long way off Championship standard; hopefully he does well in League Two, but I can't see him playing in the PL.

Decent loan for the young man to the Deckchair Army, he will learn a lot playing regularly.

Let us hope it benefits him in the same manner it did. losing the likes of Cash and Worrall out to lower League sides.

Good to see him going out to get more 'real' minutes. He's a good player is young Back - perhaps doesn't quite fit out current system, in that I think he's more of a full back than wing back, but he'll play at a higher level than the loan in good time, which will be great for his development.

I don't think he was considered almost first team last year - I think he's very much rated as one for the future and this loan, as others have pointed out, will provide minutes in men's football and will hopefully allow Back to prove himself at that level.

I'm surprised you don't see the benefit of this - perhaps you haven't been following our progress long enough to see this approach benefit the likes of Worrall, Yates, Johnson and countless others over the years. It's a development opportunity.

League 2 = mens football, will toughen him up. the 4th tier here won't be anyway close the equivalent in Greece.

Also, last season he was played before he was ready, largely due to Osei Tutu injury and prior to Spence joining.

We need to remember also that Back’s favoured position is Central Midfield and not Full Back - and he’s much further down the pecking order than at FB. Hopefully, he’ll play CM for Carlisle.

He was only near the first team because of a lack of options. Once Spence came in then Back never saw first team again.

League Two is quite competitive. English football is very different to the rest of Europe in that regard. Would have been good if he could go to League One but nevermind.

Just had a thought; isn’t Paul Simpson Manager of Carlisle now?

He is a good mate of Coops, they were in the England setup together I think?

These type of loans are massively needed for young players without an actual reserve league IMO.

Young lads will learn more in 5 games against old grizzled veterans than they would in a whole season of smashing it against other young players.

These young lads learn a lot from competitive football in the lower leagues.

And in the lower leagues of England, it matters as much to the players and the fans as it does to the rest of us. Take the FA Cup as the perfect example.

He is & stated he only got him because of their friendship in an interview earlier. (Or rather we're lucky to have him and my friendshio with coops really helped).

Stubborn is my middle name.

tell you what, it’s simple. if he blows league two away he’s at the very least bottom championship level.

We shift him to a newly promoted champ team, then he does well? sell him or use him.

i’m a fifa brained moron.

Professional league football in this country pisses all over the U23's. Only the top, top U21's get anywhere in the EFL trophy which most teams don't take that seriously anyway.

It's not just the football either, he'll have to travel to dome shitholes, embrace a new culture, settle into a new dressing room. There's more to youth development than playing.

I'm not saying he should stay at the U23. I'm saying that loanees should be playing at least at League One level (and preferably Championship level) now that you are in the Premier.

Not much difference between League 2 and League 1 these days.

And League 1 is closing the gap to the Championship in terms of quality and competiveness.

So make your own mind up.

Most of these divisions are equivalent ability, or not far off. What separates them more is how physical the teams are.

Fin is still a teen, and L2 is probably better than L1 to toughen him up a bit, also if he's good enough he'll play more regularly than in L1.

It depends what you want out of the loan. The main reason for Fin going out on loan is not to hone his skills - he's going on loan to get experience playing proper competitive minutes alongside and against senior professionals.

If his spell at Carlisle is a success, then it could lead to a loan at a higher level next season - but as it stands right now, the important thing is to place him somewhere he stands a good chance of starting the season as first choice and likely playing good minutes. Forest probably could've found a League One (or for that matter, a higher placed League Two) loan for him, but if it meant sitting on the bench all year it'd be utterly pointless.
