Favourite away trip in England(excluding Wembley)

The only away games I've been to were big cup games (apart from maybe a trip to Meadow Lane when Forest and Notts were in the same division!)

So I'd have to go for Old Trafford 1978. Stood level with the edge of the area as O'Hare was tripped, it looked a clear penalty (whatever slow motion replays might show). Great win.

On the way back, snow was settling over Snake pass and it was also foggy. I brightly suggested following the tracks of the previous car which had melted the snow. Just then, they veered towards the sheer drop on our left before righting themselves.

My mate who was driving pointed out that this showed I'd not thought it through.

I too was level with the penalty area-it looked just outside to me!
Anyway,I really couldn’t have cared less-I knew Forest would win when Liverpool resorted to high balls into the
area in the last 15 minutes(meat and drink to Larry Lloyd and Kenny Burns).

Curious game to choose, but in the early 2000s we played at Ipswich and the game finished 4-3 with, I think Marlon Mk1, scoring towards the end.

We went 2-0 down in about the first 20 mins which included a twice taken penalty which I think was saved the first time, then the game swung to and fro and the away section was rocking, with the final goal scored in front of us.

I think it was during the Hart era and might even have been in the dreaded Sheff Utd playoff season.

I know it sounds a bit hazy for a favourite away game, but I remember the occasion more than the details of the game. I think John Thompson scored just before half time to give us hope.

John Thompson’s best game in a Forest shirt. Remember that game, a really good match. Much better than the time we got absolutely pumped there and I had to get the bus back to Nottingham. Fella on the phone to his missus, who obviously had asked him how if was.

“Yeah, it was not bad” was his reply. Me and my mate just looked at him like he had three heads.

Went to both Hillsborough semi finals, but my other story is the League Cup final v Southampton.

I was retraining as a painter and decorator and a few of us from Long Eaton Skillcentre got tickets. I managed to lose my wallet in Wembley car park and was handed the van keys, stay and listen on the radio.

But a kind policeman gave me a ticket and I was able to watch the game. My wallet was handed in a Wembley police station by a Southampton fan and returned to me in the post. I could only afford to reward him with the £2 that was in the wallet.

It’s a nice ground but both times we’ve been there it was a soul-killing, dead-behind-the-eyes experience.

I saw a Champions League quarter final there about a dozen years ago. It's good when there's a decent match and atmosphere.

Can I have this one please? Because this is the most insane away performance I’ve ever seen:

Don’t think I have ever been to a game as crazy as this one it was so unexpected and to think we went 1-0 down that night and ended up winning 7-3!!!

Only game that comes close for craziness that I have been to was the 5-5 at Villa in 2018.

0-0 at Filbert Street in a midweek league Cup game. Pearce absolutely destroyed their right winger, Reid I think it was, and saw red. Rice filled in at left back and continued where psycho left off. Mental atmosphere and a fantastic team performance.

Closely followed by the League Cup semi final at White Hart Lane. Keanes thumping header and the away end went ballistic.

I was lucky enough to be at the Sheff Wed 7-1 destruction, and Leeds 7-3. But my favourite away ground experience was Roker Park. Only went the once and it was a nondescript draw, or even a defeat, honestly can't remember. But I was amazed to find the Roker roar was a real thing, it went round the ground like a Mexican wave. Can only imagine what it was like for a North East derby. It just felt electric.

Here are those challenges, perfectly fair in my opinion!

Not often mentioned but the 3-1 win @ Goodison in the first game of the ‘Champions’ season was fantastic - if only because it was so unexpected.
What a way to introduce ourselves to the big league!

I know it's not a favourite, but I must mention the Arsenal game after our outstanding start to the season. I went with an Arsenal supporting neighbour and was cock a hoop after our brilliant start. It all came crashing down, but, thankfully, we had the last laugh.

Of those that I can remember attending since 2003:

0-3 vs Manchester City / 3rd January 2009 (THAT Tyson goal!)
0-1 vs Derby / 22nd January 2011 (Earnshaw winner)
1-2 vs Stuttgart / 23rd July 2011 (friendly game, can't remember who scored, Findley perhaps?). There was about 50 Forest fans there. Magic.
0-3 vs Crystal Palace / 31st March 2012 (Radi hat-trick)
0-2 vs Leicester City / 09th November 2013 (won 2-0, think that was the season Leicester went up)
1-2 vs Derby / 17th January 2015 (Benny winner)

I wasn't at the West Brom away game under Billy but that surely has to be up there.
I also remember going to Glanford Park vs Scunthorpe in League 1. Think it ended 1-1, but there was a proper scrap between the two sets of fans at half time, as security opened the partition which led towards the food area.

This thread has got me thinking because there are so many games which provided rich enjoyment and experiences.

One which I've mentioned on several occasions, I wasn't even at. The European Cup semi-final in Cologne.

I was in Jo'burg on a trip, had just found out the first leg score and invited the crew of the VC-10 to sit with me as SABC were showing the game on their new TV service. They had resisted TV for many years as the white supremacists though TV might inflame the majority black population!

I was in raptures as you can guess. That counts as an away game I think.

Yes,but I thought the 3-0 scoreline greatly flattered Arsenal-I recall John Middleton(R.I.P.)could have done
better with at least one of the goals and Forest played some good football.
I think Clough and Taylor were intent on bringing Peter Shilton in by that stage.

I've still yet to go to Wembley. I'm determined to see Forest there when I do.

I hope they're accessible for the elderly...

I don’t think Cloughie was happy,though-it was reported in one of the newspapers that he tried to sell ‘Physco’
to Glasgow Rangers the following day.
Not that I believe all that I read...

I thought the Emirates Stadium was disappointing when Forest visited in the League Cup in 2019.

Same here. Thought the view and acoustics (condsidering the amount of fans we’d bought) were poor. Modern football hit home to me that night when we could see the Arsenal fans in the posh bit in their lounge while we queued to get in while we had the most basic of facilities in our concourse.

Agreed, the ref needs to take a long hard look at his performance :), he got there as quick as he could
