Evangelos Marinakis Megathread!

All of this additional ticketing revenue is irrelevant if you then simply end up putting it in Jonjo Shelvey’s pay packet.. We really needed to sell the best part of 100,000 pointless memberships to offset that complete fuckups wages.

Agreed, but the club couldn’t have known how badly the Shelvey (or Arter!) signings were gonna go. On paper both made great sense.

Sometimes it just don’t work

I kind of agree but no club is ever going to get all signings right

You could equally argue the increase goes to the wages of Taiwo, MGW, Danilo…

How did they make great sense? Neither have been any good for years. Limited centre mids was the last thing we needed.

The club is working hard to meet that target.

I think he wants a plum UEFA role so he can find some way to stitch-up Panathanaikos.

He was elected as the President last year too. Not sure if this is a profile raising exercise.
His involvement in the Greek Superleague has a purely local agenda. As the president of the association of clubs in the top tier of professional football he has a de jure role in the executive committee of the Greek Football Association, a very corrupt and incompetent organization. He is pushing hard for professional refereeing, which the GFA vehemently opposes because it gives their ridiculously overpaid executives a chance to run the show. The president of the GFA is a former VP of Panathinaikos (and a far-right politician, with some connections with the now defunct neo-Nazi party a few years back), and he has been at open war with EM for many years (in fact, this is how he got elected at the GFA).

This has nothing to do with international football profile; it's all very local, very Balkan, very messy.

Am I right in thinking that Tom is a senior part of the set-up with Benoy?

Yes.

Cartledge, who hails from the Newark area of Nottinghamshire and is a boyhood Forest fan, is the chief executive of Handley House, the parent company for four international businesses specialising in design and architecture.

One of those businesses is Benoy, the Newark-based firm that designed the plans to redevelop of the City Ground with a new 10,000-seat Peter Taylor stand.

Forest announced the plans in February 2019 and, having hit a series of delays ever since, the club hope that Cartledge’s involvement will help the process run more smoothly.
