Evangelos Marinakis Megathread!

Not much he could say in fairness to him. There are still obstacles - primarily NRC playing silly c*nts and the ongoing post-Covid/Brexit issues within the construction industry.
Could have mentioned some concrete? plans at least. Can be taken as referring to upgrading the facilities and no more. Just lawyer speak.

Let's see if the communication improves in due course.

Pleased to hear that it sounds like they accepted that original plans may not give us the capacity we need. He mentioned average attendances in PL being 41k and the fact he thinks we could regularly attract another 15k on top of what we have today.

Thought the comments that the owner cannot understand why the fans accept defeats and draws as interesting.

Also he'll be the guy that has to decide if Cooper keeps his job or not when the going gets tough, or at least has to deliver the difficult message if it ever comes to it.

What a great owner we have. You cannot fault his ambition, this isn't a business venture to make money, he genuinely wants to bring the great times back.

If it wasn't for FFP restrictions god only knows who we'd be targeting this window.

To be fair,I had doubts when he took over-but he’s certainly going for it and won’t accept mediocrity.

It will be boring as piss when EM leaves.

He is a great owner, he won't stop till he's got his silverware and hope he's rewarded. Agree with the above, he is about the only owner in the country that's more ambitious than it's supporters. I think we are a good fit in terms of fans / ownership. The clubs been transformed since he took over.

It's never boring with him, is it?

As nerve wracking as today has been, if the deals currently in the works all come off then we are going to have a much stronger squad than last season.

It's not always straightforward or conventional, but there's no denying that he's done a great job since taking over.

Hopefully we become an established Premier League side and get the City Ground redevelopment done; that way, the day that he does decide to leave he will do so leaving a fantastic legacy behind.

EM has played a blinder - made it clear that mid-table security is the priority with no real whiff of relegation and then handed the club every opportunity to strengthen to achieve that - of course we could do with moving more on to balance the books (or at least try to get close) but that's down to Ross etc and whether others want some of the players who we don't deem up to the mark given wages and preference etc .

All in all though you can't fault the Big Man

When the big man says he’s going to do something he gets it done.

What a guy.

Things can change very quickly and time will obviously tell. Marinakis doesn't lack for ambition but it will be interesting to see whether or not he still lacks patience through the natural ebb and flow of the season.

I think EM understands our position better than most fans.

Last season, people were constantly predicting he would do x, y and z. And he never did. He did some a, b and c stuff instead, but the return of Syrianos might and round off the edges of his impetuous side.

We're still precarious and his aim is to stabilise to progress. With the people he has around him, especially Dourekas and Randall he kept an even keel because they knew the extent of the situation.

Although still on the board, I suspect he'll miss Randall in the Chairman's role precisely because he was a football insider; having been on the right boards and in the right places. But he'll still have access to that trusted voice.

cheers big E!

seemingly a lot of clubs struggling with ffp this year, the window weve just had I feel is a bit of a statement one, we are going to press an advantage but not be ripped off in the process. If we can do as well as EM wants us to do this season I think we will all be very happy!
