Euro 2024 in Deutschland!

Homer is a Red

We're not planning on going to any games, although would like to be in at least one of the cities where England are playing during the group stages.
However, we're finding it difficult to get responses from potential camp sites around our route.
Crisis meeting planned in January. A few of the guys already looking at alternatives i.e. Canary Islands, Portugal.... :-(
Any tips gratefully received!

There will be large, open-air fan zones in all the host cities. These are well signposted, centrally located, and provide good offerings of food and drink, and will be well policed.

Many camp sites will be overwhelmed with messages because many hotel chains have taken it upon themselves to artificially whack up their prices for the month of the tournament, which isn’t nice.

Although as I’ve posted before, don’t be afraid of getting a hotel further out from the city centres; public transport in German cities - especially the host cities - is excellent, and you can get pretty much anywhere within half an hour or so.

Do you mean the England games or did you get some random group game tickets in the ballot? I'll be at the England Serbia game in Gelsenkirchen.
That will be unreal!

England games, me and my mates live in London so luckily was able to attend all the home games over the last couple of years at Wembley, managed to get our caps up through ESTC,

How's the Germans feeling about their chances Strummer? Do you think it will be a good tournament? I was too young for 06 but can imagine the Germans put on a great Tournament!
I was out in Germany for a couple of games in 2006, it was fantastic, I can't imagine any nation doing a better job of it to be honest.

I did wonder if there were any fellow ESTC members on here. I could have got tickets for any/all of the group games but owing to limited time off work could only realistically go out for the one that falls on a weekend. I also have conditional tickets for the QF and Final should England get there.... ⚽ 🍺 ⚽ 🍺

German fans think the team won’t trouble the latter stages, mostly because they don’t have a reliable centre-forward.

The tournament itself will of course be superbly organised, and there will be lots to do outside of the football with fan zones, fan ambassadors and all sorts of supporting events going on.

Fingers crossed we do,

Random one, this is my first tournament abroad, do you know how many caps are usually required for other tournaments? My understanding is that Germany is super high demand. Do you think the number of caps/demand would be lower for the USA tourney?

Sounds amazing, can't wait!

@Strummer I need some advice! I have a ticket for England vs Serbia and couple of other games. Me and my dad are going and want to travel round. Well be going to Cologne, Gelsenkirchen, Frankfurt, Munich and Berlin. Basically is there a rail pass for Germany that can get us round? I have seen a 10 day travel one for about 323 each. Do you know of anything cheaper?

Deutsche Bahn have a Special Euro2024 ticket on offer for matchdays for €29 which might help?

As I have said before, get the DB Navigator App (it runs in English as well as German) and use that - look for „Sparppreis“ or „Supersparpreis“ for individual journeys as they are the cheapest prices (and worthwhile if you can be flexible on times, so avoiding peak „rush hours“).

For those destinations, the ICE Trains are the way to go, you can book tickets for the dates in June now (and it’ll be cheaper too) so you need to be planning your itinerary!

If you have any other questions or need advice on travel or places to visit Emmo, don’t hesitate to ask.

We've got 4 tickets for Denmark in Frankfurt through the ESTC (ballot). Only have 8 caps. But home games are equivalents to away as I'm overseas.

We’re going (no tickets though).
We’re coming in like the red army from the east, Prague, Dresden, Leipzig, Nuremburg, Munich.
You’ve picked some good places to visit there. Aside from the football, there’s loads to see and do.

Julian Nagelsmann, Trainer of the Nationalelf, talks about his role, and the death of his father, who took his own life, and who apparently was an intelligence officer in the German equivalent of MI6.

Tough stuff, this:

On a trip to Berlin I visited a Stasi prison, guided tour by an ex inmate
Absolutely brutal, proper evil bastards they were
Yeah, I think I know which tour you mean, I have done that one as well, and it is an eyeopener.

The extent of Stasi surveillance of their own people was astonishing.
