England v Montenegro

Sorry are your Danny Welbecks brother or something? Anyone would think this is a personal attack!

Ronney did miss an easy chance (by his standards) but it was a very acute angle and he hit the post. I'd like to see when Sturidge shanked this chance what was similar to Welbecks though. The only one in my mind was on his right foot from the edge of the box? Are you forgetting (what i think was the first shot of the game) where Welbeck hit one from the edge of the box and put that in row z? And he should of scored that chance, inside the area, nobody near him and he hits it pretty much straight at the keeper, how you are comparing that to efforts from outside the area with defenders around Gerrard I don't know.

Yes, Townsend lost the ball a few times, but he was being positive with the ball. You could tell their fullback was shitting a brick each time he got the ball because he was direct and had the pace to do him constantly. Its all about balance and out wide I much prefer players who are going to be positive and commit defenders rather than not being able to stick to their position and offer little to no threat.

And with regards to the "better opposition like Germany, Brazil, Holland etc will score from those situations" comment, why? Why do people put these sides on a pedestal and then knock down our side constantly? What exactly has Holland done with the talent they have? Quick answer is sweet FA.

No, why, are you his ex? Did he not give you your CDs back or something? Whilst I rate Welbeck as a very good player and nothing more or less currently, I'm more just pointing out your contradictions.

Example, you say "great backheel by Sturridge", but at the same time dismiss Welbeck winning the ball. You dismiss Welbeck's cross for the own goal when it was no more or less aimles than Townsend's for the second goal. Saying he's shit and ignoring he played a part in all 3 goals, as well as numerous other goals in previous games is very strange.

The one Sturridge missed was when the ball fell to him from a corner. No pressure, easy to get it on target but he didn't. No I didn't forget Welbeck's first shot, I actually mentioned it myself, but after that he brought 3 very good saves from the keeper. Again, he was involved, getting on the end of crosses, he's always drifting into space and making himself available which is definitely a good trait to have and is very hard to mark because defenders don't like to go away from their line.

I was comparing his shot to Gerrard's efforts because the ball came towards them in a similar fashion and thus the technique to hit the shots was identical. Gerrard's was maybe 5-10 yards further back, not even sure Welbeck's was in the area actually. Either way I don't know how you can say he "should score" from there, with players and the keeper in the way. Welbeck kept it down and on target with enough power to make the keeper have to dive down and palm it straight out giving us the chance for the rebound. As I said, you often see players blast those shots over, that's football. That he kept it down and forced the keeper into a save makes it a good effort.

Anyway, I thought the team as a whole worked well together with Baines, Welbeck, Townsend and Walker being the main creative forces. If anything I think I'd have Lambert in for Sturridge.

If he played for West Brom or Norwich, it'd be because he's not good enough for Man Utd England. That's why those sorts of teams are full of Scottish and Irish internationals.

Perhaps Welbeck does fantastic things off the ball that my feeble mind doesn't understand. To the untrained eye he just looks a bit goofy. He's undoubtedly a top athletic specimen but his all around play doesn't inspire me too much. What's the difference between him and Scott Sinclair?

Sigh, I was trying to lighten up things abit and you have to try and be arsey. Man the f*** up abit :faceslap:.

Whilst I rate Welbeck as a very good player and nothing more or less currently, I'm more just pointing out your contradictions.
If we are playing arsey buggers, look up the word contradiction, because there are none in what I am saying.

Example, you say "great backheel by Sturridge", but at the same time dismiss Welbeck winning the ball.
That isn't a contradiction... Are we to applaud each player who wins the ball back? Isn't that part of their job on the football pitch if they get the opportunity to make a tackle they make one? It was a great backheel by Sturidge as it was unexpected and created space, it was an expected ball thats why it was a great backheel.

You dismiss Welbeck's cross for the own goal when it was no more or less aimles than Townsend's for the second goal.
Don't see your point here, I never said it was some sort of wonderball by Townsend? Townsend had made a good run with a defender on his back and tried to whip one in with his wrong foot, it was a crap ball but luckily it fell nicely. Welbeck was set into miles of space by Sturidge, on his good foot and kicked it straight to one of their defenders who did a cracking finish into the bottom corner.

Saying he's shit and ignoring he played a part in all 3 goals, as well as numerous other goals in previous games is very strange.
He clearly isn't shit, he is a professional football who plays for England and Manchester United. Me saying he is shit is a flippant tongue in cheek comment. However, I do think he is massively overrated and I worry, like i said before, his inclusion will hold back other players who i feel are far more talented.

The one Sturridge missed was when the ball fell to him from a corner. No pressure, easy to get it on target but he didn't. No I didn't forget Welbeck's first shot, I actually mentioned it myself, but after that he brought 3 very good saves from the keeper. Wow you are really slating Sturidge for a half volley with in a crowded penalty area? We have come to expect better from Sturidge but it was by no means an easy chance, should of at least hit the target tho. Three good saves? Three pretty routine saves. And drifting in is a good trait? Teams will genuinely take england apart down our left hand side if he isnt disciplined enough to stay out wide.

I was comparing his shot to Gerrard's efforts because the ball came towards them in a similar fashion and thus the technique to hit the shots was identical. He was in the area under no pressure, luckily for him the keeper was shit and palmed it straight to Rooney. He should of been scoring for 'a very good player'.

Anyway, I thought the team as a whole worked well together with Baines, Welbeck, Townsend and Walker being the main creative forces. If anything I think I'd have Lambert in for Sturridge.

Like it or not, Danny Welbeck is marmite. People like yourself think he is a great player, but next england game go down to pub and ask their opinion, it will be split with people like you, and people like me who don't rate him. Would I have him in the squad? Sure because he can fill a number of positions adaquately, Would if start him? Hell no.

Isn't that what Adam was trying to do? Thought his retort was quite funny...

Glad you pointed that out and not me

Oh well. England look better with Rooney, Sturridge, Welbeck and now Townsend in attack so I'm not complaining. It's a lot more exciting to watch than the old 442 with big man up front and Milner or Downing on the flanks. I actually see England challenging in the future.
