England v Denmark

There always has to be a boo boy. It threatened to be Milner, but they've moved on to Cleverly.

In 2006 it was Hargreaves. He was booed onto the pitch when we were beating Paraguay. He finished as our player of the tournament.

Woy is far too inside Man United's arsehole to ever consider dropping Rooney. If he wasn't the superstar that he is, he'd have been dropped long ago. He's the most frustrating player I've ever seen in an England shirt, made all the worse by how good he can be for his club.

Smalling, Cleverley and Welbeck most probably wouldn't get anywhere near the team, either. At least Johnson, Sturridge, Sterling and Henderson play well for Liverpool, Woy's other love.

As for the World Cup, I can't see us getting out of our group, what with the heat and our opposition all being of the technically-gifted kind that regularly tears us apart. I'll take that though if it finally sees the end of the 'old guard' and the establishment of a promising bunch of youth players for Euro 2016.

Absolute shit.

England are nowhere good enough to compete on the international stage.

Not that we've ever been a good team (one very lucky win on home soil puts on about the same level as Greece).

Hmm, I think you're saying a lucky WC win is the same as a lucky euro win.

Controlled the game without causing too much damage.

Thought the hype over Sterling's performance was OTT. Didn't actually create or do much other than demonstrate a lot of blace.

Defence other than LB is a major worry. Glen Johnson is a cowboy.

Jack Wilshere f***ing shit only gets a game because he plays for Arsenal.

Turns out he actually suffered a hairline fracture in that early challenge with Agger and played on for an hour.

Looks unlikely that he'll make the WC now if Hodgson is committed to taking the best squad available to him to perform in June. It'll be the back end of April before the air cast comes off. Then he has to rebuild his strength in that leg, first prove he can even get through a couple without breaking down, regain the fitness he is going to lose, and then play himself into the form he needs to be in to be on the plane. It is a big challenge, and you can be sure Wenger will not be supporting his push to prove his fitness ASAP in double quick time just so he can guarantee he can play football for England in June rather than continue his rehab to get him in the best shape in August.

Expect Wenger to take another swipe at international football today because this injury happened to take place on England's watch.... International football, particularly friendlies, are unfair on the clubs, blah blah. Football is at it's most exciting when Arsenal are playing fourth place deciders in the Premier League.

With regards to Tom Cleverly, will people stop being such fannys about it? I personally thought the petition was light hearted but got a point across very well that Cleverly is constantly brought into the England side because he plays for Manchester United and not much else. It will just be a kick in the knackers to see someone like him taken to the world cup in place of a Barkley or even Osman. Though I don’t agree with boo’ing when his name was read out, that was pathetic.

With regards to the game, the first half was very quiet, they broke on us a couple of times and should of made more of the chances but we were camped in their half. Should of scored towards the end of it with the chance coming from our best bit of play.

Second half we looked a far better side when Rooney was taken off and Sturidge moved central and Lallana brought on. We created some really good chances and should have been out of sight really against a side who offered nothing bar parking the bus in a friendly for 90min (and to the Danish manager, at least we are at the world cup you smarmy prick).

On Rooneys performance I just didn’t understand his role. They were all says that front 3 were meant to be fluid but from where I sat Rooney was through the middle, Sturidge and Sterling swapped side a couple of times but were mainly out wide. Rooney did everything bar play upfront tho, running around like a blue arsed fly leaving us with nothing to hit up top. I love his work rate but we need him in and around the box, not the halfway line and then playing a 40 yard ball out to the wing and not being able to get back where he should. His night was summed up by his 2 piss poor free kicks and his two identical shots from the edge of the box which were smashed well over the bar. Anyone who hasn’t heard it, listen to Mark Saggers on TalkSport after the game and he sums it up for me, Rooney has coasted being the ‘best’ player in this side for a long time and never performed. We now have the players to come in his place, its down to him to prove he deserves his starting place as I’m starting to prefer Sturidge uptop and Lallana in that no.10 role.

All in all a good run out and decent win against a side who wanted to defend for 90min.

David Moyes on the Cleverley petition pretty much sums up everything that is causing British coaching to fall behind.''A fantastic young player who is developing all the time. He is a great trainer. He never gives it less than 100%.'' - I get so frustrated when all we ever praise as a footballing nation is effort. If you run around a lot it definitely makes up for falling increasingly behind technically and tactically.

Spot on. A good friend of mine, who lives in the Netherlands was with Ajax up to the age of fifteen. He now plays for Blau-Witt and does youth coaching.

The things the Dutch teach their kids when it comes to football are light years ahead of what is coached here.

It's all about technique, ball control, passing, tactics, vision, and positioning.

The athletic side of the game - at youth level anyway - is almost an afterthought in Holland.
