Does anyone remember League 1 Derby County? (STILL the worst team in history!)

I'd say he's a reluctant buyer. As a Derby fan he doesn't want his club to go bust, but I reckon he didn't really want to own the club either, and he has just stepped up to the plate because it is clear that there is no alternative.
This.

And he deserves a bit of respect for that. We would all probably do the same if it was us and we had the means/wealth to do so. A previous poster mentioned "the chat" with HMRC though and I can't help but wonder (enjoy) the thought of a conversation along these lines and why it hasn't happened today:

Q - "These our the fees we are owed"
DC - "f***ing hell?! Right"
Q - "The unsecured creditors & football creditors need this to avoid points deductions next season"
DC - "Okay" *scratches head*
Q - "You'll need to talk to Stretford about the wage thing from last month"
DC - "For crying out loud? Anyone else I need to talk to? I've already shelled out for the stadium" *rubs chin*
Q - "Yes"
DC - "Who"?
Q - "HMRC"
DC - "How much do they want"?
Q - "The lot. In full"
DC - *stares silently thinking* "I'm a very wealthy man but I don't have bottomless pockets. I'm trying to save the club I support here. There's not really even half a first team squad at the moment so if I do bite the bullet, I'm going to have to shell out shit loads immediately on shithouse journeymen on thousands of pounds a week just to put a team out. It isn't going to get any better any time soon, it'll just be a money pit. Can I really justify giving away this much money - my money, the money of my family - to buy a third division club, however much I want to? How long will it go on for? How much can I justify of my fortune on it? 25%? 50%? More?

I think I would, I think he will . . . . . but . . . . . how do you make a small fortune?

Start with a large one and buy a third division football club on its knees.

If Clowes really wanted the club he would have bid sooner than this past week. I reckon he was guilt tripped into it when he saw they were clearly gonna get liquidated.

It was an impulse buy, make no mistake about that. He will probably want rid of it as soon as he can.

Itl be get the club secure, clear as much debt as possible, stabilise their free fall, try to get a semi decent squad, and rebuild the academy, and then sell. I think within 2 years they will be back up for sale.

On its knees?

Derby has spent more time on its knees than Carrie Symonds.

administration isn’t the issue people have, it’s the reasons for it, HMRC for a kick off.

I'm still here Crewton
Yep he bought the ground to rent to CK. Then when CK pulled out it would have been left empty if he didn't step up to buy the club too
Hat's off to Kirch, he managed to get them a buyer who doesn't really want the club, he's forced Rooney to walk and he's even stiched up Rooney's agent to pay the wages. 😄
Secret agent CK, take bow son.

Exactly.

Just how f***ing DerbDrater do they have to be to have been totally oblivious to the fact that Forest fans kicked up a stink, and actually protested against owners, getting us anywhere near that position?

Hell, when Vrentroz started dibbing a toe in that pool again with blind-dartboard recruitment a fair few of us were quick to want it reigned in too. Derby were cheering on their "all-in with no real plan" approach at every step.

We haven't got to worry about what's around the corner because the core of our fans aren't DerbDraters who ignore the realities of what's happening at the club.

Plus we're f***ing Premier League so suck our 100m schlongs you League 1 peasants. 🧐

Also, I doth my boater towards Quantuma, whose actions in trying to avoid relegation, actually landed the club and it's future owner in a giant financial hole that will likely render them a lame duck for this season and probably beyond.
They must be a firm of Forest fans?

When Big Evangelos doesn’t release the accounts for 3 years, sell the stadium to himself, constantly fall out with every owner in the division, keep taking out external loans despite being wealthy enough to fund it himself, say we need to scale back spending then spend 10s of millions, clearly break FFP rules in the process - I am sure people will take issue and not sit back twiddling their thumbs.

To say “nobody knows what’s around the corner” is stupid, everyone outside Derby could see what was going to happen. But maybe he is right, we just wouldn’t have noticed what was happening!

I also think Clowes will look to sell down the line, especially when he discovers what a money drain running a football club is.

While I don't expect him to throw the cash like Mad Mel, I do see him in a similar position of not being able to get away without making a huge loss.

They state that he paid cash for the stadium. Not a bad investment if someone is playing there. Buying the club and rebuilding it however will no doubt be in the form of loans that he'll secure against that stadium now so whoever come in will have to buy the lot.

The messy circle of debts continue.

He's going to have to throw a lot of money into the pit of no reward just to buy the club and put even a poor team together.
