Bit harsh - as a young player you have a good run of form and some success and someone comes in and offers you a better deal - why wouldn't you move, especially if you're confident you can make a go of it? (and most young footballers aren't short on confidence I suspect).

It's a short career and they must see so many good players at youth level fall by the wayside and never even get the chances they have enjoyed, so grab what you can while you can and hopefully be set up for life no matter what happens.
Be Bamford or be Yates.

Not only do we not need him but he’s got a long term injury. I reckon he could get banned from football for 3 years and people would still say bring him back. He’s hardly had a good game since he left us FFS!
He had a good run of about 10 games for Rennes then it kind of petered out and he went Leeds.

I think this one is sadly nostalgia we can do without right now.

Cooper's man-management got the best out of Spence as he put his arm around him and let him off the leash on the pitch.

What Spence did in the Championship is different to what you need to do in the Premier League.

There's levels to it and that's why he's not established himself in the first team at Spurs.

Neco Williams is on an upward curve, appears to be a better professional, and is a full international. Same as Montiel and Aurier (full internationals). The young man must work harder or find another Cooper-type manager otherwise he'll never reach his full potential.

Yep it was Cooper who got the best out of Spence, not the club or the fans. If he's not doing it at Leeds, I can't imagine it would work again here.

We have 6 full backs and FFP looming in the background. Why would we revisit this? If we were short and still had coops than yeah but the ship has sailed now

I know what you mean but at the same time while Chelsea didn't work out, he's had a long career at a Championship and PL level and scored what , 60 odd goals in 200 appearances for Boro (during some time in the PL as well) and Leeds and won an England cap - wouldn't have had any time in the PL with a Forest side going through the turmoil of Fawaz et al and that made very little impression for the vast majority of that period in the Championship. Personally don't have an issue with any player leaving, unless they're going to Derby - yes Kris Commons I'm looking at you

Mostly in the championship though and came nowhere close to fulfilling his potential. Yates on the other hand has worked hard and faced every challenge head on.

i was one of Djed's biggest fans and even said about him being a winger for us in the Prem last year... but there is no way he gets into our 25 squad.
he's done nothing since leaving apart from a MotM game in France before getting dropped
as much as it pains me to say this, Warnock is going to be the one laughing last on this guys career

I actually think he does get into our 25 on the fact that we don’t have a 3rd winger. I feel like some of you are being too harsh on the lad, he would bring a calmness on the ball like Aina does. I would 1000% still take him, but to develop him into a more of a winger in our system.

Memory slightly hazy on this one, I admit, but I don't seem to recall his crossing being that good.

Unfortunately his Forest career died when he chose to go to Spurs, and seemingly it has really damaged his whole career. It a shame for him, as I fully believe he is capable of doing well in the Premier League, maybe a loan to Luton or Sheff U, but I guess if he's not playing for Leeds he wont get a game at those either. It's a good lesson to players though, that they need to be sure what they are moving in to before deciding on joining a club, I'm not saying Spurs are a bad club, but they clearly didn't know what they were buying, or how they would use him.

Sauce salad?
Think the initial problem with the spurs move was that the manager didn't want him. He's had another two after that is it?

yeah we deffo need a couple of wingers in. maybe at least one left footer though?
my main issue is that Cooper has gone (assuming Cooper would have taken him back), Nuno must have his own targets who are a 'round peg in round whole' wingers. I dont see why he'd look twice at Spence.

Also looking at the promotion squad that we had, how many have gone onto better things? Johnson, Garner & Samba. Yates is doing OK in the Prem. Worrall, McKenna struggling, Lowe playing for a shite Sheff Utd, then a drop off to Zink, Grabban, Figueiredo, Cook, Colback, Cafu, Davis, Lolley, Surridge etc. Even need to add Steve Cooper to that list somewhere

if its a loan with a cheap option to buy then fair enough, but he's not worth the money Spurs paid.
the earlier Oliver Burke comparison is a good one

Why?

Where is he going to play?

He would be behind Montiel, probably Neco and possibly Aurier.

He had one great six month spell in the Championship in a role where he didn't really have to defend much.

Convert him to a an out and out right winger given that's what we need.

Feel the thing holding him back is his attitude. Cooper knew how to manage it and channel it. I don't think any other manager has 'got him'.

We are soon to learn whether or not we are in breach of FFP, and if we are, we also soon know what the penalty will be.
so why are we still talking about bringing in another ex-loan player who at the end of his loan chose to go and play elsewhere, and since going there has been found wanting at each club he has been on loan to.
We enjoyed a 6-month stint with him and Johnson linking up in the Championship (where he demonstrated he was not a good defender).
Let it simply lie.

So you want to sign a player who hasn't played at this level, and can't get a game at Championship level, to train him to a new position?

OK...

Trouble with that he's starting a lot more forward with less space to run into. Could be good on the counter but his end product wasn't great in the champ.

Think his time has passed unfortunately.

Can't Play Left-Back
I must admit, I had doubts whether Djed's swashbuckling style of play would be appreciated by Conte. I've got a feeling Djed's either going to become one of the best and complete fullbacks/wingbacks in the world, or he's gonna fade into obscurity after a couple of mistakes gets bomb-squadded. Please don't ruin him Spurs!

I'll take a keepr and a goalscorer in January please (assuming we can re FFP) and that will do. The last thing we need is to sign an out of form player based off sentiment who more often than not strugges to match his potential

Wish Spence all the best in his career and he'll always be a Forest legend (as will all the promotion year players) but he's done nothing to suggest he's anywhere near the level we are aspiring to get to.

Maybe a change of scenery abroad or even Scotland is needed to get back to the player he should be

Nice to see what the lad's doing but to be fair, that ship has moved on, and had done so when he chose to go from Boro to Spurs instead of going up with us.

If he'd chosen to stay with us, then we would have gone promoted with him, we would have still had him playing alongside Worrall, Cook and McKenna in the promotion winning defence, he would still have linked up with Brennan down the right in the PL - would it have worked? Maybe. Luton came up with a lot of their squad and stuck to their game plan. In our side we weren't able to keep the relationships and the pairings in areas of the pitch because of the squad turnover (i.e. the number of players who weren't ours) which is probably why we kept the defence together whilst having better options in the wings. But we would probably have not had Neco, and maybe not even Aurier, and even with that being the case the situation of having Spence in the PL would have been an unknown, given we knew he was a good player but Warnock had mentioned about his application and he'd had maybe half a season or slightly more at a decent level when we went up.

I know he's been injured at Leeds, and I know he hasn't played a lot since, but joining Spurs was clearly a bad move for him, plenty of us did say this and the benefit of hindsight has spoken, it could have worked out - but the situation was he wasn't going to walk in as first choice, but then, he might not have had the chance to play for a big club again - we never wholly know who is interested in who and who bids and who is turned down, but I doubt many 22 yr olds or however old he was get the chance to sign for a top 6 club from a Championship reserves (which is where he was before coming on loan) and if anyone does turn that down how it goes for them after that. And there's always the likes of Zaha who got a big move to Man Utd and then went back to Palace after a while because it didn't work out.

Spurs loaned him to France having not played him for the first window, yet actually, he would have been better off going to a lower PL club or another promotion chasing side. I could see his pace fitting in at Luton, but maybe they couldn't afford him, or it wasn't wanted for another reason, and that would have been a decent fit geographically too. And maybe they would have potentially been interested if they'd wanted to sign him on promotion, since he then knew he wouldn't get in the top PL side, and have to work up by performing elsewhere. And the Leeds fit didn't work because he got injured, and now their manager can't be bothered to get him fit for someone else whilst he has a RB. Who knows where he'll end up, and whether this is just bad luck, or whether his application or attitude are questionable and Cooper could work with it.

Either way the Spence at Forest ship has sailed. He isn't better than or going to displace Aurier, Aina, Montiel or Williams any time soon.
