Loan is a bit annoying - plays well and value pushes out of reach.
Yeah, but... Beggers can't be choosers. Same a Garner. Man Ure couldn't give two shits about £20m... A season playing against a team that will be no threat to them and they're happy. If he helps us stay up then maybe player power could lead to a permanent deal or we find another quality keeper, such as Pope...

No idea what this means but okay.
He was a mercurial talent that was widely regarded as the next big thing..

Exploded on to the scene at Everton only to be plying his trade, unsuccessfully, in League One a few seasons after!

I'd just rather we get someone who is ours. GK are somewhat easier to replace in fairness... and 20m buys a lot of keeper usually.

Agreed... But, if Samba goes (Henderson is an upgrade) we'll have to shell out £15-20m for a seriously good keeper. We'll need one this season- they're going to be busy! This now allows us use of a quality keeper whilst we seek permanent additions elsewhere on the pitch.

Am I right in thinking with the option to buy, if the loan club and player agree a deal, then the parent club is obligated to sell?

Yeah if we had an option it'd be a pre-agreed price with United and they'd be automatically obliged to accept if we offer it at any point during the loan. You'd assume we'd have terms agreed with Henderson in advance if that did occur.

Perhaps they agree to the option if they get a bigger sell on cut. If we do stay up and he had a big say in that, others would likely be interested but also could price us out.

I don't agree. There are plenty of "average" keepers out there but very few excellent ones and we need a top quality shot stopper next year.

Also if you look at us over the years, when we've been good its usually corresponded with a period when we've had a really good consistent keeper for a couple of seasons-thinking Shilton, Beasant, Norman, even Camp to a lesser degree. I'd throw Brice in that bracket as well

I genuinely have zero interest in taking any player on straight loan deals. We have to evolve as a club past developing young players for other teams to benefit from.

It's where we are... the aim is to be the club loaning the players out not being the one that brings them in, but rome was not built in a day..... but I guess Steve Cooper weren't on that job

Thing is, a good keeper can really be the difference between a draw and a loss or a win and a draw.
Is Dean Henderson a better keeper than Brice Samba? I'd say he is yeah. Brice has had some great moments but he's also been a liability at times.

You have Henderson, #2 at a top six team, wanting game time at a team which will lets face it, probably be fighting relegation. That tells me the guy just wants to play football. On the other hand, you have Brice who for all intents and purposes has felt slighted by this football club. Whether or not we have done so, I do not know but alas, you have an unhappy keeper and for me, I don't want unhappy players anywhere near the squad.

We got promoted because we f***ing wanted it more than the other teams chasing it. The application of hard-work, the attitude towards our style of play, the great squad spirit. All of that got us here and they will be huge factors in keeping us up potentially.

If United don't want to lose the ability to decide Henderson's future, that tells me they're reluctantly letting him go to grow. They know what we've done with Garner and it's in their interest for us to do it with Henderson.

I think considering goalkeeper was not a position we anticipated having to replace, even this being a season loan option makes sense for us to do. We can spend big on a keeper next year if we're still in the league.

A straight up loan isn't going to appeal to the club. We'll be in this position again this time next year, and Man United will slap a bigger price tag on him when they know we're desperate and he's had a year in the PL under his belt.

Before even thinking of Beasant, Crossley & Camp I'd be saying Van Bruekluen, Sutton & Grumitt

Unfortunately, that is likely to remain our role. And we need loan players, as we're simply not in a position to throw money all over the place. At least in PL, our loan exposure is limited to 2 players. If we get them right, we can hopefully use the money saved to secure Johnson etc, and bring in other key positional players.

But we'll be a more attractive proposition for players, so can attract a better quality of player. I do t give a flying f*** how we stay up as long as we do

We are probably sacrificing having Garner if we take Henderson on loan only, so why not look elsewhere (or offer Samba more) and push for Garner back?

Sounds like United want to take the summer to decide on Garner, and Garner understandably wants to try to get into their squad. We can’t really hold up our other business while that all gets sorted out. I’d make sure we get Henderson now, then if possible buy Garner later if that becomes possible

Could it be that United doesn't want to loan Garner again and instead of him, and because they value Forest's project, counter-proposed/or accepted to discuss about Henderson?

There could be things nobody knows

It would be fantastic to buy them both outright
