We are probably sacrificing having Garner if we take Henderson on loan only, so why not look elsewhere (or offer Samba more) and push for Garner back?

Personally, I'd just ask Man U what they want for Garner and pay it.

He's a great lad, been around the place for a couple of years, fits in well here and is only 21 years old and only going to get better.

Could it be that United doesn't want to loan Garner again and instead of him, and because they value Forest's project, counter-proposed/or accepted to discuss about Henderson?

There could be things nobody knows

Reality is, if Garner is to come, it won't happen until January. Then we'll have to fend off the likes of Leicester, Southampton and Leeds who'll be after his signature as well. United don't need to sell, don't really care about anybody but themselves and will take a look at him first. He'll be out of their picture by January at the latest... And I'm sure United would sell for about £15m. Other clubs would drive the price up.

Even if an option to buy is included, I'd imagine United would be paying a portion of his wages for this season anyway.
correct, my point being, if we had a compulsary purchase, then we'd have to agree to a wage close to that somehow. His current deals has 3 seasons left I believe. Imagine everyone else on a fraction and GK as top earner.

But theres another credible scenario and that's that ManUre don't particularly want to sell Garner...as has been said elsewhere they don't give a shit about anyone else. If that's true its all whistling in the wind and the only thing you can do then is put in an outrageous bid (probably in the region of 25-30) that appeals to their greed....

If it was an obligation to buy your probably right, but what is being mentioned in the press is an option to buy. So there is a possibility that we'd only be paying a portion of his wage for the initial loan period.

Buy Garner with something like a £20mil buy back clause and take Hendo without the option

Probably one of the only ways to get around the loan issue, if they sold him to us for 15 mil with a 20 mil buy back clause it would essentially be no different to a loan. Pays back his wages + a little bit on top for further developing their player

I think this is the only credible explanation for the plan. If his wages weren't crazy I think we'd pay the 20M straight up....

I will be a bit disapointed if it just a straight loan. Quality player no dispute, but feels like we should be building something. That would be my only gripe. It's a bit kick the can down the road, although if it does become an issue in the future it would have probably meant we have stayed up which is only a good thing.

Micah Richards was on £50k at 19, that was 15 years ago. - Money has gone crazy!
He was dogshit as well! My mate's a Villa fan. No injuries, took 80k a week and played twice in three seasons. Must have cost Villa about £20m in wages! Makes our profligacy seem tame

It potentially leaves £20m free to strengthen elsewhere if we don't have to put that aside for the future transfer.

Well, that was from me, and not based on any Twattering.. rather just basic logic.

I could be wrong, but there's no reason to think United would give two shits about doing right by anyone other than themselves.

1) They don't need the money
2) They wouldn't care too much about an unhappy player lower down the echelons with zero dressing room influence
3) Selling, without taking a good look, would only piss off fans who know he had a good year.

Zero incentive to sell. They'll keep him and take their own sweet time having a look. Even if they don't want him, just as likely to loan and have one final viewing next summer than they are to buy.
