Blame social media - in the good ol' days we had a deadline of the evening edition or the next issue or the next bulletin which could be hours away but now with all the platforms and the ability to type a tweet as you talk to a "source" it means that stuff that we would never have written or put out in the past without corroboration or confirmation is now just thrown into the ether of the internet with barely a thought.
As we found out with the guy from "The 72", as soon as someone who actually knows stuff calls you out on it, the dolly goes out of the pram. Nixon has blocked the foremost football finance expert in the UK for calling him out on his BS, as you say, lots gets posted without thought, whereas, proper journalism used to involve chasing leads and other things before actually getting editorial approval to run the story.

The fee would reportedly be £20m but United had baulked over such a clause and were keen on a straight loan. Nottinghamshire Live understands an option to buy the England international is now back on the negotiating table though as talks continue, suggesting the Premier League giants could shift their position.

A report in The Sun this morning said Samba had been offered a new deal on the same terms, but Nottinghamshire Live understands there is frustration over the report at Forest.
It is understood a second aspect of the report saying the Reds will pay Henderson's salary, which is claimed to be £100,000-plus per week, in full is wide of the mark.
No way is Henderson on anywhere near 100k a week.

Yeah he is apparently. His contract was running down after his Blades loan where he was brilliant and his agent was negotiating with Ed Woodward….
I’ve seen anything from 100-150kna week reported, but nothing under 100k

You can only have two domestic loans, but if you look at Norwich last year they had 4 loanees for the whole season; two were from outside England (Russia and Germany). So loans from other country's league are allowed on top of the two domestic cap.
I stand corrected then!

Not sure there would be many options from abroad for loans from clubs though.

I think the total is 8 this season, so we could technically have up to 6 from abroad (if we have 2 from the PL).

Eight international loans, reducing to six next season.

Why are we negotiating an option to buy clause for a player whose wages we will get nowhere near in that case?

I still can't believe a keeper who had one good season and was backup at United would be on that much. Surely not? Maybe half that...

I dunno mate, but I imagine his wages have caused problems with moves before. Maybe he’s ready to drop down a bit in order to be England number one? It’s not like he’d be on poor money.

Or maybe big lad and Marinakis Jr have got big, big plans?

You must be new to football 😂😂

All joking aside, this is football these days we have 18yr olds who've never played Prem football on 40k a week (remember Nate Chalobah)

I very much doubt the player will take a hair cut to play, after all he signed a 5M annual contract in good faith and therefore its owed this money. He and his agent will see it as MU and Forests problem to deal with that I am sure. How long is left on his deal does anyone know?

Average Prem salary is 50-60k a week.

Young keeper, England international. Easily good enough to start for mid table Prem clubs. 80-100k would be the minimum going rate.

If we want established, good, Prem talent then wages start at 60k plus.

There has long been a tradition in the Premier League for handing out long term contracts on ridiculous, sky-high wages for almost any player to get them to sign.

Remember Winston Bogarde at Chelsea? He was offered an outrageous contract and signed it immediately, then spent the next four years hanging round the coffee shops of south west London.

Contracts have many possible features that not many people will be accustomed to. Man Utd could loan/sell us Henderson and we give him a 3 to 5 year contract but Man Utd might pay x% of his wages for the loan AND potentially for years to come. So they get a fee, they also get to sell a player who’s wages are massive and the buying club is less put off by it.

Essentially, this is Man Utd’s mistake and they will have to accept some kind of loss on it. The player won’t want to be affected so I’d imagine some quite severe transfer and contact shenanigans are going on.

Probably one of the most difficult transfers possible until you get to ultra money deals where the players are world famous.

He’s got ages left on his deal and he’s going nowhere fast on their bench not playing.

I’m sure he’ll be thinking, impress at Forest, grab the England gloves and then move on to a new club. He’d probably rather do that for 80k a week than get paid 100k a week to do nothing. Probably wouldn’t even lose out that much once you throw in appearance fee, clean sheet fee etc.

At some point he needs to play or he’s wasting his career. Not like he’d be the first player to ever take a wage cut in order to further his career.

Well I'd rather see a bit of commitment to us but lets give him the benefit of the doubt and see....

I've spent the last 7 years doing that and nobody's offered me an outrageous contract!
