Danilo dos Santos de Oliveira

GAFF LAD. "Open your knees and feel the breeze"
I love it when he acknowledges the crowd when they sing his name.

I like Danilo - he's just a really likeable lad who you want to see do well. Great do for the Blackpool game too... like that.

Football wise I thought we saw all sides to him last night - yes he's raw (and still can't head a looping ball for toffee), but he doesn't half cover ground, is forward thinking and, when he gets it right, he impacts games at both ends of the pitch.

30 games played for us now - and at 22 years old following a move from a different continent I'd say he's doing rather well. I wonder if we need to be a bit more accepting that he won't always get it right though - when you try to play forward passes from CDM as much as he is your hit rate won't be as high as say Mangala (who is more comfortable to keep the move going).

But as he showed last night, keep the faith and his work will pay off - was he involved in all three goals or just the last two?

(Might have a look for his passing stats actually...)
This turns out to be an excellent post.

If he carries on playing like he did tonight then we should cash in on Mangala, as much as I like him. Danilo, Dominguez, Yates and Sangare is a pretty tasty quartet to be able to pick from.
I think mangala isn't as forward thinking as the others, yes a very good player but not sure his ideal for us.

Yep, outstanding yesterday. Isn't half quick too - eats up the yards. Keep it up lad, and when form drops off, as it will for a 22yr old on a new league, let's remember how talented he can be and stick behind him.

That finish as well. He's pretty two footed - I remember a similar right foot volley he hit even more sweetly last season at the Bridgford end, that flew just wide.

Definitely. I know there's a theory that we 'have to' play Sangare because of how much he cost, but at the moment if I could only have two CMs in a 4231 it'd be two out of Danilo, Dominguez and Yates.

Thought he done well when he came on today, looked confident on the ball and was the only one looking to pass it direct with pace into the channels, made a lovely tackle too.

Yeah, interesting that Nuno dropped him as he'd appeared to be a big fan up to now. He's perhaps a bigger risk than Yates and Dominguez in that deeper role, but he offers more in possession without a doubt. It'll be interesting to see how that midfield 2 shapes up as the season progresses and when Sangare's back.

I interpreted it as a horses for courses thing, with Yates and Dominguez preferred to counter Bournemouth's second ball winning in the final third. Not sure we'll see that same pairing home to Newcastle.

Definitely. I know there's a theory that we 'have to' play Sangare because of how much he cost..

We have to try and make Sangare work not just because of an arbitrary transfer fee but that it represents a significant outlay for us over the next few years when we will be teetering on the brink of FFP for at least two years without major sales.

Sangare has been underwhelming and I agree should be 4th choice CM based on performance alone but if we can get him to a place whereby he's at least deservedly challenging for a spot in that two man pivot then it means we could potentially sell him without having to take a huge loss.

Absolutely, I'm sure it was something specific tactically. (@Gyros Peter)

Feel like Danilo could be big for our season - if he can tighten up defensively and positionally, and carry on chipping in with goals and incisive passing, I think he can be a game changer for us.

I think Sangare scores the winner in the final for the ivory coast. Would be just the sort of football thing to happen following his move, their start and him being out of the side for the last one.

He is everything Sangaré isn‘t. Loved his effort tonight.
