Re: Danny Fox

Our full-backs have taken a lot of stick today, mainly due to performances this season.. However, I'm not so sure they can be solely blamed for this.

Consider last night, Walsall started the game 442, Forest started the game 433 (diamond) This meant that our fullbacks were very exposed to their wide men. Neither Fox nor Lichaj were receiving the support from midfield they should if Forest had played 442. This improved when they changed to 442.

I think Vaughan, Paterson, Burke and Ward all need take some of the blame as well for leaving their teammates stranded and dealing with 2 players each. Also the manager needs to take a look at his tactics and realise the basic rule of when you player team lesser team match their formation and tactics and just play better than them..

Re: Danny Fox

We have two international full backs who have pl experience and fox, championship winning experience. CAN YOU NOT SEE THE PROBLEM LIES ELSEWHERE?

Fox admittedly did have some Premier League experience....of warming Premier League ground dugout benches. He hardly played. Southampton got rid as soon as they can, they didn't even want him as back-up.

Re: Danny Fox

We over rely on our wingers as the focus for attack, leaving our full backs exposed as they don't track back.

Players seem to have been told to back off and not close down the opposition on the flanks.

Our playing style allows the opposition huge amounts of possession allowing huge waives of attacks left, right and centre

Clearly the players morale and confidence is really low. They are to blame in this regard- but can you really blame someone who probably feels under the cosh every game?!

The 'game' has moved on from the one dimensional style of wing play or focusing on one style of play. Imo I'm no expert, but I have seen a shift in style towards what would call complete football. The players would play as a team, allowing for covering each position. Unfortunately this means the beast and the other winger (Burke, ward et al) MUST track back and help with defensive duties and vice versa; the full backs must help out in attack.
Clearly player confidence and morale is low? f*** me they've only played one league game and one cup game. They will all be suicidal by Christmas.
I just think they don't give a shit.

You and I are in the real world so things are a little different. It takes a real strong character to make these millionaires put a shift in. I'm not sure we have that in DF

I agree. Confidence is basically a choice. You can choose to be confident. The problem is that most people also think confidence and good performances go hand in hand. They don't. You can be confident but crap

Re: Danny Fox

He could have been the greatest left back if Southampton had left him back in League One when they were promoted to the Championship.

That would be harding , not Fox. Harding did well in league one but flopped in championship hence why Southampton decided to buy Fox from celtic and replaced harding.

Re: Danny Fox

I actually thought he started OK at Brighton but got progressively worse as it went on.

Apologies if this has been mentioned elsewhere and I've never criticised him before from memory, but seeing him chewing gum on the pitch pissed me off a bit as he looked like he didn't really give a shit.

Re: Danny Fox

Can you believe his contract is to 2017 ? Fryatt & Dex too.

No problem with Dex. Dex has saved us from relegation 2 times already with his vital goals. He might be a squad player but he's still useful when needed. Fryatt we knew can be injury prone and it was a gamble.

Fox though , he was poor during his loan spell with us. When BD got sacked and SP took over , forest should have send Fox back to Southampton instead of giving him a 3 years contract. A loan should be a view to a buy and not included a iron clad 3 years contract. After his poor loan spell , he should have been send packing back to Southampton. Not sure who made that decision to retain him.

Agree with most of that. Didn't even want Fox on loan but then when you get him and he is pathetic in it and we give him a 3-year deal you start to wonder what has gone wrong in football.

Didn't want Fryatt from the beginning either but I don't feel like talking about him as he has hardly been on the pitch for us and we could have called that looking at his career.

My only gripe with Dex is, we know he has limitations. I think he is fine for 4th choice but when he got a 4-year deal it was excessive and got a decent increase too. Ideally we want him to be out of contract 2016 and earn a years extension but so be it.

Does Fox know somebody who works for the Spanish FA, as I'm starting to get suspicious

We played 442 diamond, not 433.

Re: Danny Fox

Be interesting to see who is left back on Saturday, as Forest have now Issued a statement about their frustrations around not being able to get international clearance for Pinillos. I think this makes it ever clearer that fox has played his last game as they really trying to push the Spanish FA now. I'm guessing Lichaj and mancienne at RB.

A traffic cone would be better.

But as you say, Eric at LB and Mancienne, or maybe even Roger Riera at RB if Mance is needed in Midfield.

Fox, Mancienne and Vaughan need dropping. Surely Grant can't do any worse?

Re: Danny Fox

Mancienne only needs dropping from midfield, where he is poor / a liability, (take your pick). But would happily see him at RB or CB with Mills alongside him. In his early days at CB with us, his positional play was superb but due to him being played out of position people soon forget this.

Yes, but Mills and Hobbs are better at CB though

Sorry, disagree, with Hobbs being made of biscuit he's not the man, plus I think he is a poor man's Mills, so for me Hobbs is purely a squad player, I'd pick Mancienne every time, although pragmatic enough to realise that this is only my opinion and it wouldn't be good for debate if we all thought the same :)
