Creativity

Disregarding refereeing descisions etc, anyone else concerned by our total lack of creativity? We have very few good chances per game, I think this comes from our lack of pace and width, be it from wingers or full backs. I cannot remember the last time we got behind or to the by line and pulled it back or fizzed it across.

Agree! Lack of pace is costing us, hopefully the rumours of Robbie Brady are true.

The passing game isn't working at all and hasn't since the Charlton game, it seems like we're passing it about a lot but still ending up hoofing it long.

Pace is a necessity in the modern game.

Couldnt agree more with you guys. Severely lacking with both pace and creativity in our game at the moment. We go long far too often now. We have an awesome squad, very capable of a good passing game, and I know its very early days but I'd like to see some glimpses of it coming through soon

The amount of times Halford/Ayala hoofed it up the pitch was ridiculous, I thought Gillet was supposed sit in front of the defense giving the defenders an option in the middle. I kept pointing to the hole in front of the defense on my screen whenever we had the ball. We need to mix it up even if we have 10 men. We defo could do with some pace and width though.

We are a hoofball team.

Iv no idea where we get this impression that SODs forest are some amazing Tika taka side. We pass it around the back four a few times - realize that it's going nowhere then hoof it to Blackstock.

Happens every time. Awful

The passing game is great, but we lack the incisive edge and importantly the pace to make it count.

Teams have sussed us out. Deny us space in midfield and we have to resort to the long ball.

We've got players that can offer creativity, it's just that we put them all in a straight jacket. All 4 midfielders want to play central, all 4 of them want the ball to feet, all 4 of them move into the same areas. It's a clusterfuck at times and we end up playing into the oppositions hands, If we had someone that offered a threat down a wing, we'd be far better off. At the minute teams can just clog up the middle of the park and we get stuck, if we had a threat elsewhere, teams would have to defend differently against us freeing up space in the middle. Hutch aside, there's nothing coming from the full backs either.

Look at the end of last season (where despite Cotterill we were playing much better Football), we had McCleary wide, Reid wide-ish and Guedioura, Majewski and McGugan and started to thrive in central positions.

When pressed our slick passing goes to shit, we pass it across the back a few times and hoof it - hopefully with time we can play a quicker tempo passing game and find space to negate this when teams press, if the midfield is jammed like derbys tactics todag its up to the fullbacks and or wingers to overlap and work the flanks. We have no one that can do this it seems, hutch maybe. There was no plan B today, but you cant fault that going down 10 with 45 to go.

Please sign a winger Fawaz - we need a plan B

Absolutely, I'm very concerned with our lack of creativity and am glad that it's been highlighted here and not forgotten after the ref's poor showing.

We were an absolute joy to watch against Charlton. As we had been in large spells in the 3 previous games. Then we hit the international break, and this article was published on the back of the Nottingham Post:

http://www.thisisnottingham.co.uk/A...tty-football/story-16871494-detail/story.html

Since then, whether we've intentionally adapted our game to be more direct I don't know, but we really have been poor and lacking in end product. First half today we showed nothing going forward, we were far too static.

I'm all for passing football, and I don't mind a backwards pass if it's the only option in retaining possession. But playing football along the back four and eventually going long is not the Barcelona model! You may use defenders in the build up to an attack, but ultimately the ball has to work its way through the midfield, and eventually an attacker has to look to find that half yard to open up the defence, whether that's through beating a man or moving into a pocket of space.

As has been mentioned above, we seem to have too many central players, players who you might describe as a number 10...McGugan, Guedioura, Lansbury, Jenas, Majewski...you could possibly even include Reid and Coppinger in that bracket. All great talents, but can they all play together? And where is the width? How are we looking to stretch the game to give these talents the space they need to work their magic? Everything is a bit too cramped in the centre of the park, and we seem to be too predictible.

We are blessed with many talented individuals, but that's not enough. We need a balanced team.

you can't really judge our creative ability on a game against Derby - it's always gonna be a messy affair with foul after foul after foul and no overly long periods of control to get in to it - no real holding, strings of passes etc. The only thing you can take for a game against Derby is that we're gonna be pissed off at the ref and that the players play like 2 sunday pub teams with a promise of free drinks for the rest of the day as the prize. For God's sake, Dex who's usually collected and controlled got sent off for conduct - says something about the scale of the game.
Derby Vs Forest - pretty it ain't

You need wide players to stretch the game and give the central players room to operate.

I don't know if anybody else noticed but the pitch has actually been narrowed by a yard or so, on the Brian Clough side at least.

At the moment, it seems Cox is our most creative player and when we get the ball up to him something does seem likely to happen. McGugan has frequently been found too deep, Reid has gone off the boil or people have just found him out and he can't get any room to do anything good.

I think the solution is getting Cohen, Lansbury and Guediora in the central positions or maybe playing Majewski off Cox. Those are the strong players that can drive the ball from our own half up the pitch and then spread the play. That's how to start attacks for me.

Our style of play works when the opposition are fearful of the creative players. Mcgugan and Reid have given the team naff-all to be fearful of past few games.

Yeah both Derby and Brum just sat back and clogged the midfield, but when there is big spaces, we don't have the pace to exploit it. It's really, really obvious.
