Cohen at left back?

Wouldn't it be better for those who have debated this subject before to simply butt out and leave those who wish to discuss the matter to do so? Seems logical to me!

PS I think its a daft idea and am sick of saying so :hey:

I'd rather us have Terry the Kitman at left back than Harding. Awful, awful player.

I've always said Cohen should fully convert to a full-back. He'd have a much better career doing it, young(ish) good English left-backs are a rarity and he's good enough and at an age where learning the role would come easy to him - enough so to ply his trade in that position in the top tier.

He won't, however ever make a Premier League midfielder IMO.

It's also worth remembering that when Billy played CC at left-back in the 09/10 season for around 20 games, we only lost once (home to West Brom where he actually scored an OG)

Harding every time. Cohen's wasted at LB.

Some of the players have been playing pap this year, but if Billy can turn Chambers into a decent defender I wouldn't write off the likes of Harding just yet.

Cohen hasn't really been performing this year and might have a fight to keep his place in midfield. Harding should stay lb until if ever we get anyone better

We could always convert George Cohen from a right-back to left-back too.

In all honesty though, I think Chris Cohen is a decent emergency back-up to have for left-back. But he's not the full-time solution.

Harding will do for now and who's to say Billy Davies can't get the best out of him if he lets him know his job role and responsibilities (which areas he needs to concentrate on, what he's good at, etc) and gives him a bit of confidence?

Remember we were without a left-back for so long under Billy Davies before so I would say it's probably a bonus to have somebody we can call an actual left-back on our books!

I too wondered about Cohen at LB, but after getting wrist slapped by Tutts I have to agree he would not only be a liability there, we would also lose him from midfield.
Maybe put him left side of midfield so as to support Harding.

He's kind of like Rook in Chess when he plays left back - decent going in straight lines up and down the touch line but useless at anything that attacks him diagonally.

In other chess related anologies, Majewski is a Pawn as he's small, Reid is a knight as he goes two steps inside to go one step forward, Adlene is a Bishop as he plays long diagnals and Collins is a King as he barely moves all game.

... we don't have a Queen... pity.

I can't believe we're even having this conversation.

The first thing Steve McLaren did at Forest was take Cohen out of the engine room and put him at left back. Cohen is not a left back under any circumstances. Sure, he's got a left foot, and can tackle, so he can literally play there, but it's just not right to put him there.

Dan Harding is decent, and the bottom line is he's our left back, why does everyone give him stick? Shouldn't the manager be geeing him up, coaching him and getting the best out of him rather than doing something suicidal like taking our most energetic player out of midfield in some already tried and failed coaching masterplan that Shteve tried.

No, no, no. No.

^this.

Cohen is a midfielder. It's his preferred position and where he performs best. The fact that he can play, and has played, as a left defender just reinforces his flexibility and willingness to adjust as and when required.

Whilst we have sufficient cover, and I consider Harding our first choice LB, then I wouldn't even consider playing Cohen there.

I don't think Harding gets 'skinned' or lets as many crosses in as any other full back in the league. This notion that a full back is going to stop everything is utterly bizarre. I wonder if the fans of every team Garath McCleary played last season thought their left back should be dropped.

Harding has been fine this season. In fact, he's had good games and then been chucked out the side for Halford to play left back who from what I've seen is slightly better at tackling and stopping players going past but actually quite a bit worse at closing down crosses. He also offers practically nothing in an attacking sense which affects the team overall - as we don't push up the pitch into opponent's territory as much, it's easy for them to defend against zero threat.

I'd like to see Cohen in front of Harding personally. Raddy and Cohen have linked up very well together on the left hand side on numerous occasions, add Harding overlapping into that and I think that side would be solid and consistent. However, when things work well, we seem to change them for something less effective... the new 'Forest way'.

Clearly not a defender. Look at him dwelling on the ball today and then rushing the pass back straight to K Davies. Need a top LB in the summer

We need another Jara on the left. We'd be cooking then.
