Cohen at left back?

Mr RayReardon

Jack Burkitt
Now Billy is back, I wonder how the much publicised 'left back problem' will develop...?

Our options.. Harding is capable and can be reasonable going forward but is often skinned and allows far too much space for crosses into the box..

Greg Halford, a competent defender who has probably been our best performer all season, however, would probably be better plugging one of the two gaping holes down the middle of the pitch.

Perhaps Cohen might do a job there? Before we start saying, 'he's our best midfielder, why sacrifice him' I think his energy and blood and guts attitude could do a job over-lapping Reidy on the left. This would free up some space in midfield for Lewis/Lansbury. Cohen, to be honest, is slighly wasted on the right. Not saying he should be the sacrificial lamb, but, given his ability and leftfoot it might be better for the team as a whole.

GK: Darlow (although I suspect Billy will look to bring in some more experience)
RB: Jara
CB: Halford
CB: Collins/Ward (I think Collins will retain his position)
LB: Cohen
RM: McGugen/Lansbury (think this may be a position Billy tries to fill in the loan market)
CM: (holding): Pep (please, please, please Billy - don't go with the mouse!)
CM: (attacking): Radi
LM: Reidy
CF: Sharp
CF: Cox

available options - Lewis/Lansbury or vice versa.. Gillet/Mouse/Greening for Pep/radi.. Dexter for Radi if the game needs..

certainly an attacking menace in the side.. may be a rejuvenated Lewis might be like a new signing and inspire the team! or maybe he'll be frustratingly inconsistent and we'll lose 1 - 2..

Cohen is no better as a left back than Harding us, and would probably get skinned more.

only a few seasons ago, and he was solid enough. We had a better back 4 at the time.. might have been easier to slot in then.

If managers always feel the need to field an experienced player over a younger inexperienced player just because of experience there would never be any progression in football.
I really hope Darlow gets and takes the chance to stay in goal for a long time

The thing is, you've exactly highlighted Cohen as a left back in your description of Harding.

Decent enough going forward but any ball nipped inside him, he was really vulnerable too and got skinned a lot when he played there.

The whole defence needs replacing plus Hutchison if hes still here plus sicknote Ayala we had no left back other than on loan 5 managers ago and we still aint got one surely theres one in the lower leagues to purchase

Although, I would still have more confidence in Cohen than I would Harding just because he is a better footballer, better in the air, better on the ball and better going forward. However, the issue of getting skinned will no doubt remain.

It doesn't matter who plays left back, you'll still have Reidy leaving them completely exposed while he wonders around the pitch

The difference between then and now is simply Harding. We have an actual left back here on a permanant basis even if he isn't that great.

Can we close this thread?

It's come from no where, it's been brought up too many times and it won't happen. Cohen is rubbish at LB and Harding is doing sufficiently enough.

Thats the issue with this site; don't like the thread - close it.

I don't think theres any point having him at LB when we have Harding and Halford, but that doesn't mean it's not worth discussing.

You misunderstand. I have no intrinsic knowledge of which threads are closed, if any. But its a common statement made on here. Just gets a bit tiring!

Hey, there's plenty of comments I don't like too - that's the nature of the beast :)
