Cloughie is going back to Derby.

I thought the 'BC Trophy' was primarily Forest with the sheep agreeing.

Why play it @ Derby then? Was our ground busy? :D

I thought it was originally announced at the CG, and moved to Derby.

There was a logical reason as I recall, but can't remember what it was!

Also Derby County had f*** all to do with the renaming of the A52 - it was both councils respectively following a lot of requests from fans.

It's really easy to criticise here, Killy - if you felt that strongly anyone would think you'd actually go and make a difference - or are you just waiting for someone else to do it, so you can criticise them for not doing it right? :)

Maybe a nicely worded letter to Mr Doughty would do inspire him to commission a statue for the ground.

Oh right, but it just so happens, Brian Clough Way runs right past Pride Park.

Since when did football clubs control what roads are called? It's named that way on both sides of the border, so was decided by the two councils.. I'm sure both clubs backed the move, but certainly didn't drive it :)

As to my other points, if you feel strongly enough about things, writing somewhere other than here might actually bear some fruit... or is it a case of giving you want to ask for is not actually what you want? :)

this is old news and has even been mentioned before by kilburn, why the new thread? Am I alone in getting slightly bored by the daily parade of moaning posts.
At least when matches are being played we have actual football to talk about.

I have to say that I think the sighting of the new statue at the bottom of King/Queen Street is spot on. BC's influence was far wider than the football club everybody in the city was influenced by his presence.

Also, correct me if I am wrong, but is that not going to be the site of a "speakers corner" if so then the Brian would be completely in his element and luvin' it!

Kilburn, what on earth makes you think that football clubs can name roads? Also I believe there are a considerable number of roads / streets in Nottingham named after players.

There's a whole estate near Arnold named after the '66 World Cup squad - I suppose West Ham sanctioned that :p

There was me thinking that The City Ground was Brians Church where he carried out acts of biblical greatness?

"Everybody in the City" once attended the match!!

In fact while we are at it, lets move Robin Hoods statue from Nottingham Castle and relocate it to Arnold High Street?

You're remarkably quiet on answering my earlier comments ;)

LTLF is my platform for debate.

And thats all down to your hard work Alan.

Please do not take my stance as a personnel attack upon your good self or any body else involved in the fund raising committee. I have the up-most respect for your sturdy efforts. I even purchased 50 Cloughie pin badges from the Council building in the City Centre. Brian's left sock is mine!!

It simply frustrates me that after all the hard work the Council ultimately have the decision about siting.

I do not argue for the sake of argument, I simply, in all honesty believe the most appropriate place for a statue is at the City Ground.

If a poll was carried out amongst fans, which location would win?

I don't take anything personally mate, and I appreciate the debate :)

The guys who started the fund (not myself, I was a mere minion) decided on a city centre location, not the council. The council supported this, obviously, because their permission would be needed to do so.

The communication RIGHT from the outset always said a city centre location, it never claimed nor hinted at a City Ground location... not once.

I do agree that Clough (and Taylor) should be more appropriately honoured at the City Ground. I also see this as the responsibility of the club to resolve, rather than fundraising by the good people of Nottingham and beyond, as it wasn't just Forest supporters who contributed to the fund.

You're probably right that if you polled supporters they'd pick the ground, if you then asked how many of 'em contributed to the fund, how many of 'em got actively involved in any of the fundraising etc - you'd have a less impressive answer.

The target to raise funds wasn't actually that high given our average attendances, let alone the latent fans who don't attend games - clearly not that many fans cared that much, sadly.

Yes, perhaps todays Chav fans require some education. It was a long time ago though wasn't it mate. Those heady hazy days. :(

If a one off game was staged at the City Ground to generate funds for a Statue at the ground, I'm pretty confident the funds required could be raised in 90 mins.

FOND's first official "call to arms" could be a relocation mission in the small hours. :D

Can I get a refund on my pin badges as I feel I was deceived when purchasing? ;D

No, you get a polite reminder to actually understand what you're buying into ;)

And yes, it was a while back now.

That said, it was heartening to see kids not old enough to even remember Cloughie being alive eagerly chucking cash into the collection buckets - clearly a few kids are being educated appropriately...

... I think the sad fact is that a huge proportion of Forest fans, and probably football fans in general, are quite happy to pontificate about what should or shouldn't be done, but when it comes to the crunch aren't prepared to either strive to make it happen, or back or support those people that do.

Like you say, you would hope that at a single game you should easily be able to raise a big chunk of the total - there were extensive bucket collections outside the City Ground at at least 3 games... I've no idea exactly how much was raised by these means, but I know a number of the other initiatives such as donated memorabilia from the likes of Stuart Pearce and Roy Keane, the Clough Aid gig, and other big one-off events made up the bulk of the fund. Not to mention the final £10k which was, a little bit cynically I might add, stumped up by Forest and the Council between them.

The sad fact of the matter is fans are prepared to sing that Brian Clough's a football genius, but when it came to putting hands in pockets, stats bear out that the majority abstained.
