The reality is Akpom & Burke were the only players able to successfully take players on today. When your striker is having to take two & three men on to fashion openings, it becomes clear the midfield isn't creating anything for him.

It becomes clear the midfield couldn't be bothered.

It seems the bulk of our players have given up; were not going to get promoted this season so no juicy bonuses for them, so they're probably already mentally on holiday.

Wayne Rooney wouldn't have scored for us today if he was playing up top, the midfield, Chris Burke 10 minutes in the second half aside, weren't bothered about winning.

How many chances did Akpom have? One? Which he fashioned himself.

Give the kid a break, he's strong, he's fast and he's got the makings of a good forward. He might not have scored yet (three games is hardly the marker of goal drought) but he's quite clearly more suited to Championship football than Lars is, which is a shame considering he isn't our player and Lars is.

The point is what is he doing here? He hasn't had any impact which we bought him to have, our season's over now, he isn't gonna be here after 2 May, so why is he playing? We need to think and plan for next season and get our own players playing who are gonna be here

I would assume given Britt's still going to be injured that we'll be in the market for a striker on a season long loan.

I suspect Akpom would be that player.

Why would Arsenal want to send their player to a side who are showing they're not any good for him though? They've got to think about what he needs.

Akpom will probably give them bad reports, their scouts are seeing the way we're not feeding him and we'll be crossed off the list of potential sides he can go to next season.

He's guaranteed game time here for starters and our facilities are pretty good. He's only joined when our season was concluding. Who knows what next year holds?

There's no chance we'd get him on a season loan especially given he's had no impact and arsenal will want him to go somewhere else for more experience and prob at a club with more chance of promotion unless he stays in the prem. why do we need to constantly loan players anyway? Who then leave us in the lurch when they leave.

I would be looking to turn that logic on its head. He spent today holding the ball up, he ran at players and beat them, he fashioned alot of openings for himself. Hes had shots on goal. In a limited side like ours, he has a great opportunity to work on his all round game.

If he's rubbish like you say then why will a promotion chasing team want him?

We need loan players because a lot of our players will be departing and we will need to plug gaps? It's romantic pointing to our youth setup and saying lets blood them all but the reality is only two or three are ready to push for a spot.

Tyler Walker might be great or he might be mediocre. We don't know yet. As it currently stands going into next season we have Fryatt and Dex as proper senior players and both are somewhat susceptible to injuries. It would be in our interest to secure a loan as backup if nothing else.

Has Chuba f**ked your missus by any chance? It seems like you want him to fail and want him out? Next season might be a tough slog for us, he'll be an asset, especially if we lose Antonio as it'll go someway to maintaining an element of pace and power in the eleven.

I dunno, maybe not, just not sure why you're so against it. It's not like anyone else played well today but I'm confident enough in players like Lichaj, Antonio, Burke, Osborn etc to have good games in the future. You're writing him off, if he was as poor as you think he is he wouldn't have just signed a new contract at Arsenal.

He looks tidy but raw to me. Whoever said this thread will be like the Harry Kane at Leicester thread is right.

Game time isn't everything for a young loan player.

Obviously game time is needed, but Patrick Bamford has been benched a bit by Boro but he's part of a winning side. A winning spirit. A winning mentality, which needs to be instilled.

If Arsenal are clever they won't send him on a season-long-loan to us. Three months at the start of the season, at most.

And how would have Chelsea known Middlesbrough would have had that winning spirit pre-season? Did Spurs send Alex Pritchard on loan to Brentford thinking they'd be serious promotion challengers?

Both were loaned out, with the parent clubs knowing the teams play passing, flowing football, giving the best chance of success. At least the passing football was a base there already. We don't have a base, or any foundations.

Akpom has been loaned to us, and so far has had awful service. Not had crosses to latch onto. Barely any through balls. We don't have an identity. Hard for a highly thought of Arsenal player to come in and have an impact.

Just looking at it from Arsenal's point of view.

I haven't got anything against him per se but I get fed up of Forest taking miscalculated gambles, pointless often expensive loans that don't help us achieve anything and often at the expense of our own players coming through. There's been so many examples in recent years like Ince, Chalobah etc and I just think now's the time we need to learn a lesson on this. Yes I take the point about the fitness of our other strikers but perhaps we can find a good freebie or two in the summer up front. Sorry, but I just want us to rely on ourselves more and we need to do that going forward and I want players that give a toss about what happens to Nottingham Forest

Could have had a goal today if he didn't somehow manage to run offside when having a tap in laid on for him by Walker. Inexcusable.

Wank CM other than Burke trying his best he had no service , We need to f*** off Lansbury and get someone in that can own the centre of the park.

Walkers was a miss hit shot. Akpom showed a strikers instinct by following in looking for a rebound. He wouldn't be the first striker in the world to jump the gun looking for a goal. "Inexcusable" is harsh.

I have to agree with earlier poster that said Burke and Akpom stood out. The rest ? Garbage. Already on the beach.........guys we don't want players who have the attitude of can't be bothered - Huddersfield were a shining example to us today of a team still determined to try and play well even though they have nothing to play for. Dougie needs to let them know in the clearest possible terms that if that's their attitude then it doesn't augur well for next season and he won't put up with it. (I of course excuse the young lads)

He was actually level with the ball. Bad decision.

Just seen a replay and it does look level but it's still quite poor to have been that close to the line anyway

Sorry but this loan is a complete waste of time.
Tyler Walker is better as is Biscuit Blackstock.

It is mental, the complete lack of service he has had.

That goes for all our strikers.

Notably,Akpom looked better when another striker came on as it stopped him being entirely isolated.

He is an excellent young prospect currently playing in a team with nothing to play for, and players who really don't care because they are just treading water till the summer.

You only have to look at the difference in Tom Ince at Derby, compared to the player we saw here in a team that couldn't be arsed.

There is no team spirit at the club, or drive and desire. There is a lack of a base which Pearce was trying to address, but got sacked, and now freedman will have to start again

This club is mental

Unfortunately, those that really do seem to care are out injured all the time (Reid, Cohen, Hobbs, Asbo) whilst those that quite clearly could not give a flying f*** about this club despite being here years have been in the starting line up most of the season (Fox, Wilson, Lansbury, Darlow)

When half your starting eleven is only worried about their pay cheque or next move then it's no wonder the winning mentality and togetherness are simply not there.

Only twice in the past decade has this team actually been a team, half a season under Davies in his first full season and once with Hart when we got to the playoffs. Everything inbetween and since has simply been to make up the numbers and to get royally rewarded for nothing.

He can't help the linesman getting it wrong.

I don't think playing a 19yo up front on his own in the Championship is the best idea in the world, should be good with Blackstock. I hope we do get him next season.

I think he looks a very good player. Would have been nice to have had him earlier in the season.
