Chuba Akpom

So as I predicted nothing from Akpom, playoffs are over now, well they were anyway. Why did he even start? Done nothing to earn it, Blackstock was the man in possession and should have started, and scored within 5 mins of coming on. This loan is a complete waste of time and as I said we'd be better off playing our own, Dex, Walker, Veldwijk et al.

Christ, one game and he's rubbish already, despite the fact he was totally isolated by what was to be a poor midfield display for most of the game.

No, let's totally ignore the fact he was strong, fast, had a good touch and linked up well on a couple of occasions. Let's forget the fact he's still only a teenager and is inexperience and raw.

Dex didn't start because he wasn't fully fit. Akpom might be here next season on a season long loan. We'll need one as Britt's out.

I would agree with Tyler getting more game time now that the playoffs are out of reach, but come on, hardly the worst player on the pitch today. Give the kid a break.

Thought he looked very lively to start with, some great control and turns, looking to run at them. Got a bit of rough treatment though, should have won a penalty and got little help from team mates after that. Obviously not a target man, we started lumping it aimlessly or trying to find Antonio after about 30 minutes.

The only justification for playing him now is Freedman has to try to earn a contract. If managers were lasting more than nineteen games a stint, Freedman's job might be secure enough for Forest to give their own young players game time in the remaining dead rubbers, rather than Arsenal and Newcastle's.

So we had hoofing under Pearce when he went on record saying he didn;t want it. Now we got Lumping under Freedman and im sure he doesn't issue instructions to do ot so are our players A to thick to follow instructions B to idle to work the ball or C not skilled enough

Blackstock said in his after match interview that he was not fit enough to start and probably won't be 90 minute fit for Brentford either.

Steady on. Don't let the truth get in the way of belittling our own players.

I can see why he`s not scored a professional goal yet. Legs and upper body don`t seem to be in sync with each other and always about to fall down when he`s got the ball. Guess he needs time though...

I agree with the assessment of Akpom, but the deterioration of his performance coincided with the deterioration in service.

Yes, know it's only one game but that's what we needed him to do isn't it, come in and hit the ground running etcand have an immediate impact to beat wolves and brentford to keep the playoffs alive, but he didn't did he? folk were saying 'oh if he scores the winner etc' da di da, but he didn't did he? That's the point am trying to get across, that he didn't have any impact and he hasn't got any time to settle in to be able to have any impact because he's only here for 6 games more, so it's no use to us him being inexperienced and raw. This is what annoys me about these short term loans, they're practically pointless, particularly in this instance, won't help us achieve anything and just get in the way of our own players developing. It's like Barrow too, he's done nothing since being here has he? Where was he yesterday?. It's just time and money wasted, and going forward this club can't afford to do that any more. A good short term loan is someone like kenwyne jones to Bournemouth because his experience will be vital to them in the run in, he scored on his debut yesterday to help them to a draw and he can help them achieve something. His loan has a point to it. And even if Akpom does score or do the odd good thing before his loan is up at the end of the day we're just developing someone else's player. I just get fed up with Forest constantly pissing their time and money up the wall, it's time they woke up.

He didn't get to have a shot at goal, so i don't know how some on here can call him crap. Showed some nice touches but when Antonio blasted it wide from a tight angle, you could see his frustration as he was free in the middle. Britt had a similar issue throughout the season too. Antonio's self belief is fantastic when it gets results but sometimes trying something over and over by yourself no matter what is negative to the team.

If we had played Dexter from the beginning we would have won the game. Both Chooba and Barrow are too lightweight.

FFS. You do realise that we are under an embargo? Kenwyne Jones is financially out of our league.
I thought Akpom had a good start but suffered a lack of service.
Dougie should have put him out wide as soon as Antonio got injured.

Dougie said in his Radio Nottingham interview that we were in for "an experienced premier league player who moved from one championship club to another championship club but we couldn't compete financially"

My assumption guess was Kenwyne Jones

Yes, absolutely I realise we're under an embargo and I'm not saying we could have got Jones, but I'm sure we spent something to get Akpom and went 'all guns blazing' apparently to do it but what was the point? We're not in bournemouth's position just needing that extra little push from someone experienced to get over the line, the playoffs were basically and now are gone anyway, and we get some raw 19 year old kid for 6 games to help us do what exactly? No point to it, we would have been better off saving our time and money and playing Dex, Lars and Walker because they'll be the ones here next year. There's just been so many examples of these pointless, expensive short loans of players who don't give a toss about NFFC, Barrow, Ince, Chalobah etc and clear off in next to no time and just fed up of it. Things need to change

I have a serious dislike of the loan system, which is dysfunctional in so many ways.
Looking in to the situation at Forest an outsider would be fully justified in in being highly critical of a system that allows us to sell 2 players for around £7.5m, in a desperate bid to ease our FFP problems, and for those 2 players to be immediately loaned back to us with the acquiring club paying their wages.
I watched Akpom with interest yesterday.
Without a doubt he looks to have a lot of potential, but he is completely inexperienced at Championship level, and the Championship is a tough, tough league, full of seasoned pros.
Akpom will learn a lot while he is here, if he plays the last 6 games, and a bit like Bamford, who had OK loan spells at a couple of clubs before going on loan to Middlesborough, for whom he has now scored 17 league goals, Akpom will be more of a threat next season, when he is more likely to be playing for a different Championship team.
OK - we have Gardner who, other than yesterday, when he had a poor game, but so many of the players we bring in on loan fail to really shine.
So, why have we brought in Akpom?
We should, in my opinion, be using Walker more.
He too will not be effective this season, but he would have the chance to learn and develop ready for next season.

I think that, however much an outside chance, while the playoffs are still possible you've got to think about having the best squad to do that. Especially if that is the goal that your chairman has set.

I have no idea if Akpom is a better option than Walker, but whether you do and whether you agree with the manager/chairman or not - it is him that has to make those decisions within the context that is set by the chairman. It may turn out to be fruitless. It may have been better to invest playing time in developing one of your young players at the expense of chasing the dragon.

But the one thing I do have an opinion on is that no manager, in any business, can operate on 'what ifs' because it leads to destructive form inertia. You have some objectives and then you make some choices to try an achive them. You may be wrong i the end, and you will likely pay with your job and your career. But that is the nature of the beast.

Antonio was clearly injured. He spent the 2nd half clutching his ribs until he came off. Akpom has some skills. Give him a chance.
