Christopher Grant Wood

I'm feeling rather giddy in truth.

Forest won a game playing total football.

Chris Wood scored again, this time a clever effort from outside the box and now I'm delighted that we have him for another year, words that I genuinely couldn't even comprehend saying a year ago.

I was wrong about Wood and its probably fair to also have the conversation about Giraldi doing a stellar job in January in general too.

Get in Chrissy Wood!

Being ultra-negative it is a big wage to carry in the Championship. Though there could be relegation clauses. Also he might even attract a reasonable fee in those circumstances. (Same for Aina really). Hopefully they both keep doing the business though and it doesn’t come to that.

Great news all round I think.

It is a big wage to carry in the Championship and I think the bin dippers are paying Vardy like 120k a week in the Championship but if he has a full year left on his deal, if we did go down, he becomes a sellable asset. We would only probably get like 4-5m for him but if you are one of the teams going up and you've seen the guy bag all these goals recently, spending £10m on him and his current wages doesn't seem like a great expenditure.

Fortunately, we're not going down so, don't have to worry about it.

Chris Wood in the Championship would be absolutely unbelievable though. Think PvH/Mitrovic level and add a bit.

Not that it'll happen though because if we do go down (and it'd be our own stupid fault if we did because we're 3 clear of Luton even with the deductions) we'll probably sell him as one of the lower PL sides would definitely have him.

I wonder if we suddenly find ourselves £7.5m (or whatever his fee amortised over two years rather than one is) better off on our bottom line this season due to this sudden revelation 😂

Not sure where it's come from though... Everything up until now has said it was a loan until the end of the season then 15m for a year contract. Unless there was an option for a 2nd which he's triggered with appearances/goals or the club have just exercised it?

It does have a bit of a feel of a retcon about it. “Oh yeah, he’s always been signed up for two and a half seasons”. Either that or someone working in the press office got the wrong end of the stick when he signed, and no-one noticed 😁.

To be honest, it did always seem a high transfer fee to pay for effectively a single season.

To say that that news is reassuring is an understatement. Syrianos and Wilson can concentrate their efforts on finding decent longer-term backup for Woody and Taiwo.
Definitely. It's one less thing to worry about in the summer. Hopefully we can find a promising young striker in the summer to be 3rd choice next season, which will give that player time to bed in and learn his trade whilst Taiwo and Wood continue to be our main two.

Not quite as on his goal the other night, but since he got the all important second (from range!) I'll continue the running total:

11th PL goal, 12th in total, 12th point earned from his goals.

He's literally doubled my (best) expectations for him in terms of both points gained and goals. Chris Wood - take a bow sir!

The question is now do we keep Taiwo or sell him and try to bring in a first choice striker to compete with Wood who is available more than 50% of the time.
The best way to ensure ongoing FFP compliance is to sell valuable players when their value is high. Taiwo's injury record means we'd struggle to recoup what we paid for him. So the prime path is to stick with him and hope he regains fitness and form.

Did anyone else hear Harry Hodge talking about Chris Wood after the game on Tuesday? He was saying that he remembers him playing for Millwall as a 20 year old and he bullied Forest down here and Millwall won 4-1. And in fairness throughout his career he's just got on with it and been a model professional. I bet Cloughie on here probably remembers the game

There's plenty of Millwall players that have bullied us over the years. I lose track of who all of them are 😁

I remember that game.

Billy Sharp for us. Wood only scored one but he was a pest in the box with Darius Henderson as his target man.

It was the original 'boring interview' by O'Driscoll when fans were raging at the lacklustre performance and he just explained it away in his mild mannered way.

Dr Who more recently, but then Darius Henderson, Neil Harris, plenty of others have usually done well against us.

Wood is another who always seemed to do well against us, think he got 2 in that game where Second Choice Schteve quit after as well.

Both. We are well light up top. Keep Wood, keep Taiwo and bring in another. Let them fight it out.
I think the issue is to get the best out of Taiwo he needs to be playing week in, week out. But his injury record means he can't be first choice. Wood is a little too old and susceptible to injury to be a true first choice too.

So we still need a first choice striker, but can we afford to pay PL wages for another starting striker and/or is Taiwo going to be happy being 2/3 choice?

I am on record as to how good I think a fit Taiwo is. He's a top 5 striker in the PL on the top of his game. But we don't see it regularly enough to pin our hopes to him IMO and his setbacks are so regular that he struggles to get up to full speed before hes out again.

If we can get 20m plus for him, I'd consider selling him and move on with someone else.

Again, I agree with the principle

But I don't want to go into next season with a cracked Taiwo and an aging (but brilliant) Wood as our first two choice strikers. We need a first choice who is capable of playing week in, week out and we can't afford both Wood and Taiwo as backups.

Well, yeah, but it’s Catch-22 isn‘t it, only with slightly less German bombers?

Taiwo needs to play every week to get up to steam and be effective, but his injury record prevents him from doing just that.

What to do? Keep him as a reserve, or as a player to throw on at the hour mark? Or try and find another similar player?
