Grant Holt went on to score fifteen goals in a Premier League season.

Megson and Kinnear landed Premier League jobs after leaving Forest.

Wes Morgan lifted the Premier League trophy.

None of these things seemed likely either.

It is more likely there is something in the water in Nottingham.

It's because there aren't many decent English players available or getting a chance due to the " best league in the world" being chock full of foreign players and managers

They should scrap the England side and field Chelsea's youth side. Based on their performances in the World Cup Finals we could all speculate on which England players will make the big time and get a permanent move to Stoke City.

Has Chalobah been that good to get into the England team? Not a criticism I just haven't seen much of him.

Well he has 96 england caps across all levels i do believe so he must be comfortable at international level.

I always Said Grolt would score goals if he made it to the prem, he scored goals here until he was played as a right winger.

extraordinary that he will become an a full england international. he was beyond awful at forest.

You do realise he's still only 22?
He was very raw when he came to nffc, but there wasn't any doubting his technical ability and potential. It's early days but he's started well at Watford.

To me Chalobah is a classic example of a favoured player, this time by the FA staff. Is he that much better than others of his age group? It would appear so judging by the number of appearances for the various national squads.

Even allowing for his age, his appearances for Forest were, to put it mildly, somewhat mediocre. Signed because of an inflated reputation well before his time, much to prove yet.

Lets not forget the many (9) appearances he made for Napoli in his season long loan. Often coming on in the 85th minute to see out a comfortably won match.

If he had come through Torquay United's academy he wouldn't be in the England squad... Overrated hype-job.

Dele Alli came through MK Dons' youth system.

However, it's no coincidence that the top clubs tend to produce the most number of quality players. They have the best academies with the best facilities and can attract the best youngsters. I think Southampton are the exception, but the other top 7 academies belong to the top 7 clubs.

He started at Fulham's academy but moved to Chelsea as a 10yr old

For the amount of money they spend and the amount of players they nick i'd want out 'top' academies to do a lot better than they do.

That's the England Squad and the academies they came through... Bar Manchester United i'd say the return from the 'Top Clubs' academies is useless, probably because most think they've made it before they actually have, due to massive contracts they receive early on.

There's no pressure on the big clubs to produce their own players when they can take the best young players the other 86 other academies produce for what is loose change to them. The whole Football League is their youth academy.I bet 90% of every England squad have been signed to one of the top six at some point even if some barely played for them.

Its not the academies' job to produce players for England, only to produce players who are Premier League standard or better for their clubs. On that basis they produce significantly more than the rest. Other than the top clubs, Southampton, West Ham, Palace and Leeds iirc are the other academies who have a good record of producing PL players.

That's an interesting post - cheers for putting it up. Wasn't Harry Kane in the Arsenal academy for a while? From that list, it does look like Manchester United are still producing reasonable numbers - not quite in the same class as '92 though.

Depressingly, you wouldn't look at that list and think there's a team in there that would threaten to go deep in any tournament though.

United churn them out because they had the pick of the whole of the North west apart from in and around Merseyside.

There will be a shift in that in a few years time when the money City have spent comes to fruition.
