Burnley to make a move for Lansbury

Bit of a contradiction there? If he's PL level why isn't he playing there already?

Adam Lallana spent 4 years in the Championship and 2 years in League 1.

If I'd said to you at that point, he was a Premier League level player who should be in the England team, you'd probably have said I was contradicting myself and was a bit mad.

There's a lot of players in the Championship who could easily play in the top leagues of Europe and make a major impact. Look at Adel Taarabt. 3 years in the Championship with QPR. Went to the Premier League and now playing a key role for Milan in Serie A.

Jay Rodriguez and Rickie Lambert are other ones. Grant Holt. Had 2 great seasons in the Premier League. A lot of Championship players can easily make the step up. There's not a lot of difference on the whole if you look at most squads in the lower half of the Premier League and the top half of the Championship. There's obviously more quality players in the Premier League and the consistency/desire you need to show and Lansbury already has that. The Premier League is where players want to be playing and I wouldn't blame Lansbury for wanting to go.

Great post.

In playing standards, there's not much difference between the top half of the Championship and the bottom half of the Premier League.

A player at a decent Championship club wouldn't look out of place at many of the top level clubs (those outside the mythical top six" anyway), but critically the wages on offer in the Premier League are now such that most players want to be there.

Who wouldn't, given that you could probably double or treble your money?

James Perch was another example. Captained us in League One, and didn't look outclassed at Newcastle.

Agree that players can make the step up and you've chosen some great examples. Of course, Lansbury may go onto great things, but neither Norwich nor West Ham saw enough to take a punt so my opinion is that he has found his level, a good championship player.

He is a lucky charm. Every Championship club bar Forest that he plays for gets promoted.

Dont say that. The anti Billy vultures will be circling around you waiting to pounce

Yeh, maybe...Billy had something...god knows what it was but he could improve certain players...Chambers springs to mind. However the immutable truth is he has always managed to leave a club in a big hole when he left. Anyway enough about him, just enjoy the cricket season and two million transfer rumours (players linked not pounds to be paid)

Hope Stuart has a heart to heart with Henri if he stays with us tbh.

Very good player and has surprised me how he can stamp his influence on a game, improved big time since he first came.

He's a bit mardyarse though and soon becomes frustrated on the pitch (many bookings through this), not sure he's a positive influence in the dressing room? If Pearce can knock the edges of the attitude side of his game he can be one of the best players in the country.

Really doubt SP would sanction the sale and doubt Fawaz would do it on the sly either!

Any other manager coming here and I'd be worried. But given Psycho's history with Lansbury, I'm hopeful both Pearce and Fawaz will do what it takes to hold on to him, and I hope Lansbury acknowledges that.

I would guess that the promoted teams, the recently relegated teams and a few of the lower PL teams will all be interested in Henri this summer.

I get that feeling too.
I think maybe this thread should be renamed 'The Henri Lansbury transfer saga of 2014'.

If he's going to go, I'd rather he come out and say it, then we can sell him right at the start of the window to avoid distraction.

yes I agree - saying that though, losing charlie austin didn't exactly destroy burnley like it was initially thought did it!
