I had too - He was a Belgium international getting games in one what was considered to be in the top 3 midfields in international football and was one they had high hopes for.

I suppose it goes down to what you have read before we signed him

Ok two people had. But regardless, he’s never been well known and still isn’t particularly.

People who follow the Bundesliga knew him. I also bought him a lot in fifa, has had good potential since like 2019 or something.

Not just on this forum but on others.
You also must realise that we have fans based in different countries who are also different nationalities and also are fans of other leagues?

He was well known.
Maybe there are just some people who had not heard of him who think he was not well known.
It happens.

Would be a class signing if we could shoe horn him in the team. But as someone alluded to earlier, if we are in trouble with FFP it wouldn’t be the wisest move!

I don't think that we are in trouble FFP wise. It sounds like a potential one year issue which the BJ sale rectifies.

It's a timing issue, not an issue moving forward.

Infact if BJ gets accounted for this year, rather than last it actually makes us much healthier moving forward.

Yeah I thought that yesterday as well. If it gets accounted for in 23/24 we get more benefit from that under the 3 year rolling calcs, as opposed to a years benefit being swallowed up in 22/23. Anyway will see how that goes.

Firmino back to Liverpool seems the obvious move. If they don’t want him, dare say we are in the race like many others.

I’m very skeptical of the FFP talk. It’s based off one finance expert and doesn’t seem to have much in way of facts. Hopefully you are right and we are all above board.

The Mangala signing was never a surprise even though after watching his YouTube highlight he looked like a good signing. Lingard and Navas were genuine surprises. I don’t see how that’s in any way controversial.

Well, it kind of was a surprise, in that although I’d developed a liking for the player having watched him for three years, it was an open secret he was leaving the VfB and wanted a Premier League move.

He might not have been „top six“ level, of course, but he’s a solid player, and you don’t get into the Belgian midfield merely because of a liking for Frites and Waffles.

Lingard and Navas - it could be argued - were players of a slightly higher pedigree, and as such, those two were a genuine surprise (granted the Lingard signing didn’t really work, but it was maybe worth the punt).

Regardless of Mangala, I don't think you can put Lingard and Navas at the same pedigree. Navas is levels above most in the game in terms of trophies won.

Errr... with an FFP ruling on 14th January, I think talking about bringing in more players on massive wages is perhaps a little optimistic!
