[BUPA] Roberto Firmino

Isn't he more of a link-up player alongside several other quality forwards?

As silly as it sounds, I wouldn't be keen, unless the Big Man is planning on poaching Salah and Jota as well.

Firmino is quality, one of the most intelligent strikers there is. Do not agree one bit with the people that say he's average. He has always elevated the players around him with his excellent link up play.
Sort of what I said ina roundabout way… as an out and out striker he’s not supreme. However as you said his link up play is outstanding. The problem is elanga and CHO aren’t goalscorers so we would rely on Firminiho so as a striker he dosen’t suit us. However I’d love him as another number 10 in our squad.

It would all depend on fitness and mentality for me, so Nuno would need to have a big say.

Prime Firmino is just World class in this league and better than anything we've got. But if he turns up in the same state as Origi did at the training ground then there's no point. I doubt there's been much intensity in the games he's been playing recently.

He's not even been playing.

What does that say about his Saudi experience?

No matter how good he still is or has been in the past, this is the type of signing that we look back on when we end up getting a 12 point FFP deduction and think, ‘maybe that wasn’t the best decision… ‘

More chance of finally signing Roberto Baggio.

We have had ridiculous signings that no one would have thought we could get a few years ago
Navas
Felipe
Lodi
Mangala
Sangare.

However prime Firmino?
No chance.
More likely that he will go back to Liverpool on loan

Lingard, Felipe, Navas, Sangare, Montiel. Yes.

Lodi and Mangala. No.

TBH you could make a case for nearly all the signings, there haven't been any real clangers.

Biancone, Richards injured so who knows they could have done a job.

Bade I am sure would have been competent if given a chance.

Lingard, Origi put in the unfit catagory but only on short contracts so worth a risk.

Wood, can criticise for only being a 1 year contract at 15m but is beginning to repay some of that fee.

O'Brien again unlucky to not get more chances.

Dennis, still think the is a player there if used in the correct way.

Shelvey, no one can predict the future but the aim was to have a midfielder who can transition the ball to the frontmen.

Ayew a low risk free agent.

Santos, possibly a plan B if Sangare deal didn't materialise but still likely a decent player if given a chance.

Tavares effectively ended up a bench warmer but only likely to be 6m loan.

Turner signed as no2 with the Hendo saga dragging on. Vlachodimos was probably bought as a low risk no1 (cheapish) but hasn't yet materialised. Might get a second chance to shine soon.

We now have a squad with some quality players and some who can do a job, Nuno will aim to get rid of those outside of these 2 groups and replace them with better quality players.

Not every signing is going to be a hit but we are still in the Premier league and hopefully looking up rather than down.

I was confused as to why Mangala was in there 😂
Well he had played for Belgium a few times and Belgium had/has easily one the best Midfields in the world for a number of years.
To say he wasn't a massive step up compared to what he had had for the previous 23 years would be a head scratcher IMHO.

No I agree. Defo a step up.

Just didn't seem to fit in with the other players you listed as it wasn't a particular shock when we signed him.

Anyway ......
