I thought he was poor last night, seemed to get knocked around quite a bit and had a couple of chances to create but it didn't come off. The international break will do him good.

If we fall short of promotion this season I hope he doesn't rush to jump ship, he's currently a good player and clearly he's got the foundations to be a very good player but he still has a fair bit of developing to do. His decision making is a bit naive at times and he doesn't impact games consistently enough to be a regular at the top level just yet, considering he's not even 21 until the end of the season he has plenty of time and I don't think it will hurt him getting another years experience playing week in week out at this level under a coach like Cooper

Players who are premier league ready stand out like a sore thumb at this level (Spence) with the way they impact games, although Johnson has his moments and his pace is always a threat he doesn't consistently have that type of presence which you'd consider 'unplayable'

So you lot don't think he'll be a shoo-in for Wales' game in a week's time ?

Yeah I agree completely

It's in his best interests to stay

He needs to prove he can maintain the form of Jan-Feb over a full season before he would really do the business in the Prem. As things stand he would be a bench player for a lower mid table side.

Johnson drifts into the middle a lot whilst Davies goes to the left, which gives Spence space.

Again. May well be affecting Brennan's game again but it's benefitting the team. Unless we play Silva or Lolley on the left instead, it's working with Davies playing slightly to the left, Johnson coming into the middle, basically allowing Spence to constantly come forward down the right.

Right at the start of the game, QPR flooded that right hand side whenever Johnson/Spence got the ball. 2, 3, 4 running right at them.

He did rush a couple of things but still put the effort in. Right at the end he was back defending the back post against their big man, then goes up the other end and scores.

A few quiet games means very little to me. He's a player that can and will produce something at any time.

Exactly how I see it.

Not quite the same but there are some who go to far with Zinckernagel too. He isn't perfect but we've seen enough that he can get a lot right in games too and it creates another attacking point that teams find difficult to stop when he does.

Last night was also a bit of an off night for Davis but it doesn't mean he is any less the player we saw vs Reading.

This happens with young footballers or in Zinckernagel's case still pretty inexperienced at this sort of football in our country.

But most importantly even if it isn't quite working for all 3 (all of the players really) they never give up or stop their off the ball contribution either.

Lovely read.

Robert Page worked at Forest for a bit didn't he.

I've noticed we've got a lot of dual nationals with them. All local lads.

Seniors: Brennan Johnson
U21s: Oli Hammond
U18s: Ben Hammond & Justin Hanks
U17s: Theo Robinson
U15s: Isaac Davies

Sam Collins also eligible for their 19s & been called up to camps.

Brennan would be well advised to look closely at Jota and how he played for Liverpool. That’s the blueprint, and at the level he’s aspiring to he’s still got a long way to go

Also think he needs to bulk up a bit and get stronger, assuming he keeps his pace and trickery.
Liverpool reminded me just how much more physical good prem teams are-defenders aren't going to give you time at that level and if they think you have a physical weakness they are going to target that.

Yep, it's a myth that the Championship is "more physical" than the prem. Prem players are faster and stronger, you get less space. It's why Reidy and Lolley never really excelled at the top level.

I've seen Brennan do it against Premier League opposition.

Does he really need to bulk up?

That's also a myth. Someone in his position doesn't need to rely on that too much. Look at Wilfried Zaha and other players who play in his style.

That's not what their game is about and they still succeed. Sterling. Mane. Saka. They are more tricky and pacey than anything.

Maybe bulk up is the wrong term-what I mean is he would benefit from being physically stronger, and I don't mean changing the way he plays I just think he would be more effective if he was a little harder to knock off the ball.

I'd also take issue with the inference that players like Sterling, Mane, and Saka are somehow willowy runners-certainly Sterling and Mane are like pieces of wrought iron, they are perfectly able to look after themselves in contact.

David Silva was another, a Player i enjoyed watching immensely, even though he looked like he might blow away in a high wind.

Not sure why any attacking player needs to bulk up nowadays. Just fall over on any contact and win a free-kick instead.

I don't think he needs to bulk up. He'll continue to get stronger over the next couple of years anyway. He doesn't look like he has the frame to handle bulking up like a Bale or Ronaldo. The extra muscle might help his power and overall pace (quicker over 20 yards), but would probably affect his acceleration (slower over 5 yards) and stamina. If he continues to work on his decision making and final ball, that's what will make him a top player.

I thought Brennan just looked knackered against Liverpool. Hopefully the international break will do him well.
