Brennan Price Johnson

He desperately needs dropping. Watched him a few times live recently, but only listened on the radio today, and he wasn’t mentioned once the whole first half. The effort just doesn’t seem there at the moment, I mean Gibbs white is by no means great atm, but you can tell thay the effort and drive to be involved it there, i wouldn’t even blame our defense this season, it seems just wave after wave of attack, and our midfield (especially Johnson) aren’t doing enough to build attacks.

I hope everyone remembers what this kid did for us last season and stays behind him

He remains a top talent and will get better and better still

His penalty miss today was a huge blow. It would have done him the world of good to get back on the score sheet. Wolves were already getting jittery…who knows what might have happened at 1-1 with 20 to go. But he didn’t and now the knives will be back in the sharpener for Brennan

I remain happy to see his name on the team sheet. He was being tested in the lower leagues just two seasons ago so he’s entitled some time to understand the leap in levels and work his way into back into some form. Coops will know if a seat on the bench will help or hinder at this stage. I do think Jonno could work well as an impact sub in the right circumstances if his replacements can actually make opposition defenders put in a shift for a change

He’s one of our own

Johnson is struggling at this level. Using his pace (exclusively) to beat defenders is no longer working. Has to sit. He isn't a great dribbler (yet) and just pushing the ball into space isn't as productive as it once was. Add the Spence absence and there isn't much happening. The odd flash of something isn't enough. He needs to become a sub for the next few matches. Maybe we need 5-3-2 or 4-4-2 as a formation. 4-3-3 isn't working.

I think he’s too concentrated on the World Cup.

Doesn’t want to get injured, so not throwing himself into tackles or taking people on enough.

Most other players are being rotated, why not him.

As far as I'm aware, the received wisdom has always been that you don't chuck young and still developing kids into a losing team week-in, week-out as it runs the risk of doing them more harm than good.

When did that thinking change?

Maybe something in this, never occurred to me actually.

Is he another Jara?

This is a tough one - young player not performing in a struggling team.

Its not unusual - do you rest him or let play through it?

I recognise he’s not showing form - there are several reasons for this, and his confidence is low.

As supporters we need to recognise his huge contribution last season and show more understanding of him. It doesn’t give him a free pass for a place in the team but at recent games the vocal criticism of him has been over the top in my opinion.

Yesterday I was on the front row and had a close view of his first half performance. Without doubt he is struggling for confidence, and too frequently he receives the ball to feet without support, rather than into space to use his pace.

I also challenge the views that he’s not trying, or too focussed on Wales.

Of course missing the penalty adds pressure on him and makes him an easier target. I don’t believe it was a poor penalty but credit the Wolves keeper - although he appeared to move too early to make the save.

Johnson’s best attributes are goal scoring and pace. The decision for SC is whether there is a better option at the current time, or is it best to give Johnson the time to play through this difficult time for him, and also to develop relationships with his new team mates.

My faith is in SC to make the best decision.

Disagree. Everyone can see that Johnson has contributed nothing for weeks - it's painfully obvious

It is painfully obvious, but if we drop him and continue to lose you will get the usual suspects who will say he's "the only one capable of changing a game..."

Despite being shit for the whole of the season.

Good save yesterday fir the pen, though I thought at the time BJ had switched techniques from his usual. Could be wrong, I'll watch back.

I'm not in the BJ isn't trying camp - he's putting the yards in, it's just for whatever reason ATM it's not coming off. I'd say he is feeding on scraps currently, which isn't what you want as an attacking player.

Would I drop him? Possibly, though I'd rather see a Dennis, Taiwo, BJ front three - I just don't see us being able to accommodate that in the next few, so yes, I'd probably give him a rest for at least one of them.

That said, he's our biggest asset, so I understand the desire to offer him the best possible chance of adjusting (minutes). I also think that in time he will be on a level above we can offer.

I wouldn't refer to not starting Johnson a"dropping" him: it would be "resting" him, and just 2squad rotation".
He needs a break just as much as we need to see Cooper take decisive action.

I get the feeling BJ wouldn't mind a spell on the bench, and come on later in games.

Takes him out the pressure cauldron and freshens him up for whatever he needs to prove.

The abuse Johnson recieved from individuals yesterday was disheartening, uncalled for and clearly audible - players- including Johno- recoilng from their customary "thanks for coming" applause . Will do nothing for the lad's confidence or our ability to get points. Such a shame when genuine fans who have supported the team through thick and thin, glad to be on the bigger stage, can't get tickets

Sadly there is no patience in football just because you are young. If you're not delivering, you're out. and Brennan just isn't delivering.

Why not play Lingard in his place, then we wouldn't have the Lingard /MGW conundrum. Lings has played as a winger, or even Lodi as a winger.

See, I'm playing the game. Squeeze a player in because I want him, not because he's the answer.

Our current game is based on playing on the break - the counter attack requires pace which I don’t believe Jesse (or anyone else) wii provide. This is part of reason for Johno keeping his place.

I agree in our current state that Jesse, Johno and MGW cannot all be included In the same team. In addition we need a central attacker who can retain the ball, and bring Johno (and others) into the game.

He has NEVER thrown himself into tackles, ever. He's never tracked back either, last time he made a tackle in his own half?....

Hes miles away from being an all round player and a luxury that we simply cant afford.

He'll start on Tuesday though, guatanteed.

Agreed, excuses being offered that it isn't part of his game are codswallop! Watch all the top sides and the forwards work their arses off closing down and making tackles

Could be something in this, theres a reason why he looks like he's stopped playing for Forest & just for himself.

My own guess he's bought too much into his own hype & probably th'nks hard graft aint for the flair players. Reality is theres no flair, so probably needs to get working hard again.

Hypothetically our current game is based on playing on the break, however I'm not sure how many weeks need to pass before the penny drops that it's not working! It certainly doesn't help when the goalkeeper is just as likely to hoof it into touch as find find one of his own players, so it's not all Johnson's fault, but that doesn't change the fact that he's contributing close to zero every match.
