Bomb squad, the Premier edition

We can't impose it arbitrarily, but it's possible to reach a mutual agreement with the player for the contract to be terminated and them to leave early. Kasper Schmeichel did that with Nice a couple days ago.

Though it's too late now to do that for anyone who wants to stay in England, as the player can only sign elsewhere as a free agent if their previous contract ended or was terminated before the relevant transfer window closed.

Yes, what I am saying is there is no unilateral contract cancellation.

Never said there was. To be clear, I’m not saying this is something we should do unless the player in question wants it to happen so he can take an opportunity elsewhere. Rather than being unable to go anywhere until January.

Surely we can find Biancone a club in Belgium if we are prepared to subsidise his wages? Dennis also previously played in Belgium didn’t he? One of the big teams might fancy bringing him back on loan.

Praying that an Australian club takes Shelvey Sr

It's been reported in the Greek press, as I said earlier. We don't need Biancone. Kouyaté is a possibility. Dennis refused to come here.
Kouyate I'd keep for depth. He was good yesterday again.

It's going to be difficult to get Biancone a loan. Clubs will need to see he's played games after his injury. He won't get that here.

Dennis will be hard to shift. We've overpaid and his wages sound like an issue. Subsidised loans for a few years. Doesn't sound like he fancies Saudi.

Despite yesterday's rumours, it appears neither Kouyaté nor Biancone will make the trip to Athens (nor, of course, Dennis, who had already said no).

The deadline for submitting the list of players for the Europa League is today at midnight, and I suppose there's no reaason whatsoever for them to sign at a later stage (our transfer window ends on September 12).

I will be a bit surprised if Kouyate leaves at all to be honest, Cooper has used him in every single game he's been fit for except one game against Fulham where he was an unused sub. He clearly values him.

Might as well put a summary of where we are, assuming no further incomings or outgoings:

23 in the Senior Squad: Turner, Tavares, Worrall, Mangala, Sangare, Williams, Kouyate, Awoniyi, MGW, Wood, CHO, Dominguez, Felipe, Niakhate, Yates, Vlachodimos, Aurier, McKenna, Origi, Danilo, Montiel, Boly, Aina

6 count as U21s: Santos, Mighten, Elanga, Omobamidele, Murillo, Aguilera

So that leaves two spots up for grabs:
One of Hennessey, Horvath, or G Shelvey for the 3rd keeper.
Then for the last spot one of Biancone, Toffolo, or Konate, or maybe even a 4th keeper from the above. My guess would be Toffolo.

And obviously Dennis, J Shelvey, Arter never to be seen again.

Sounds about right.

Though I do find the treatment of Dennis a bit odd. Sure, he was a bit frustrating last season, but there must be more going on there than meets the eye than to get completely frozen out like he has been.

Other players we’ve been looking to move on have been kept involved. (Except Shelvey obviously)

Personally, I'd not bother with Biancone or Toffolo as we we'll have 12 defenders in the squad already (and surely a suspension is coming Toff's way soon). I'd go for Dennis unless we can shift him to Saudi or elsewhere. We shouldn't need him but we're still a little short up front/wide forwards so I'd have him in case of emergency. He's a bit of enigma, making effective decisions for him is something that happens to other people, but on occasion, when the stars align, he can produce a moment of magic. I'd go for Horvath as 3rd keeper, as I think Shelvey's too inexperienced and not sure about Hennesessy's fitness.

Agree that personally I'd go for Dennis, in terms of talent and providing what we're short of at least - but I put him in the Arter/Shelvey "proper" bomb squad list as all indications are that he's being given the same treatment - kept away from the first team squad, training with the kids. So have to assume that a bridge has been burned somewhere and he's not going to be factored in.

Yeah me too, but seems very unlikely. Didn’t even make the bench in pre-season. Don’t think he’s injured?
Yeah when we signed him from Watford there was a lot of talk that he wasn't a great personality to have in the dressing room. Maybe he's just not worth keeping around.

I reckon Dennis has played his last game for us at this point
Funny game football - if Maguire can make it back on to the pitch at Man Utd who knows - he'd have to work his bollocks off to make it back into Coops good graces though by the sound of it

Dennis wasn't even taken on the pre-season tour & the nature of our club is we will just sign somebody else if we get to a point where we need to reintegrate him. He's done.

Not convinced he’s wired up right to be honest. Best intentions, and some talent, might well be there but he’s maybe just thick as f*** on a football field.

Don't ever remember seeing a player fall over quite so often in promising positions.

It was a weird one, because at other times he looked like he could finish. Bit of an enigma, but think we've outgrown him already. It's a shame, as he was relatively expensive.

I'd like to keep Biancone, tbh. Didn't show himself up in the few minutes he got last year and, imho, deserves a chance, unless a decent loan becomes available. Plus, he can cover RB and CB. I reckon, if push comes to shove and we end up light in forward areas, that Neco could do a job on the right and Tavares looks great going forward; And not forgetting young Alex who, iirc, still counts as u21?
