I cant help hinking he is a complete waste of space. Since he got his new contract, how many games has he played and more to the point, as a striker, how many goals has he scored? Perhaps we need to send him out on a short loan somewhwere to get his goalscoring boots back, even if its down in league one.

Is there something wrong with our coaching of strikers? It appears to me that when they leave us they seem to score for fun, look at McGoldrick.

Thoughts please.

Dont think its a problem with the strikers really. Our strikers arent missing tons of chances every single game.

If you look at say Blackburn, they focus their play on directing everything to Rhodes to score. Thats what their play is based around. Theres nothing wrong with that, and you do whatever works.

We play more with an emphasis on players working hard with the strikers dropping deep and the midfielders attacking.

Which is why we score goals from all areas of the team. In the first 10 games, we have seen goals from Reid, Derbyshire, Cox, Hobbs, Henderson and Lansbury (theres probably more I have missed)

We have are getting goals from all areas (despite people moaning that one striker in particular is not scoring everything)

Personally, I prefer it this way as it means we are not entirely reliant on one man.

Blackstock has not really had a run in the side, but it appears he has become something of a scape goat. Which is a shame when you consider his record for us is good, and last season was his only really bad one.

I can feel the relief mixed with euphoria in the air a couple of minute later the whistle goes and the roof is lifted of the City Ground for the first time in months positivity is everywhere. I leave the ground still shaking from with the adrenaline pumping round me, crossing Trent Bridge I have that feeling where you just want to shout from the rooftops."

Dexter deserves our respect for this moment that he gave to us. It's probably time for him to find a new club though. He's still only 27.

Blackstock is still good but hasn't been playing so fitness and confidence will be issues.

As for strikers going on to score I think that's all down to the way we play football... I've not watched many forest teams who play with freedom to express themselves!

Partly that and partly the expectation at Forest. Not wanting to shit on other teams but you can't tell me the level of expectation and history are the same at ipswich add they are here... Our fans can write a player off in two games, the pressure must be ridiculous.

Plus mcgoldrick probably wasnt the best liked I the changing room and probably dampened his enjoyment of being at forest...

i think the training is well thought out. mackie is given a pop at a 1-on-1 every week. practice makes perfect. don't drop him, keep giving him those chances, and he'll put one away by xmas, mark my words!

It's a shame but he doesn't seem effective or even interested anymore, should be good back up for Hendo but he's not at the moment.

My favourite ever goal...

Something has gone very wrong with Dex. He appears to have such a good attitude so I don't think it's just that the contract has made him lazy. Still a change of scene would probably do him, and us, a world of good.

Didn't someone say he fell out with the owners over something - might that of soured his feelings towards the team?

He hasn't played much though has he, he's surrounded by strikers that have done well since their arrival.

He I am sure will get his chances in the coming weeks and months, considering he only played half a season really last year his goal record was still 7/8? Not bad considering.

I get the feeling Davies is trying to give everyone game time, get everyone in the squad motivated and ready to slot in when people inevitably get injured/suspended or tactical changes needed. Typical Davies build up to the season, no?

A few weeks ago, Peter Schmeichel (I think) was on Match of the Day; he attributed Aaron Ramsey's recent resurgence in form as being catalysed by Wenger's removal of a lot of the dross over the summer and the last year - ie. Gervinho, Bendtner, Arshavin. This allowed Ramsey to stake more of a claim not only in the starting eleven, but also more of a confidence and influence in the dressing room amongst the team. This got me thinking about our strikers, and whether a similar clear out of the dross would help improve the prospects of those we keep in a similar fashion, if Schmeichel is indeed correct.

Personally, I agree with those who think that we have outgrown Blackstock; I don't think he's good enough for the level we are aiming for, and his attitude since his new contract has hardly been great. Perhaps if Blackstock, Miller, and Tudgay were moved on or released, Cox, Henderson, Mackie and Derbyshire would be able to have a significant improvement on our fortunes up front. We don't need seven strikers; four is enough to cover both injuries and allow rotation, and it may have this added benefit. Just a thought.

The first thing I like about Dexter is that he is a very genuine guy. He refuses to go and take the praise from the high payers in the Robin Hood suite. He signs the kids' autographs instead. He has scored many good goals for us but needs a run in the team. I think the contract was a mistake and made him complacent. Move Miller on, he's the worst. Dex still has something to offer and will score a lot of goals for us again.

Derbyshire is powder puff. Get rid. Keep Mackie, Hendo and Cox. Get a decent striker to challenge them 3. Maybe Beccio if we get Sako.

Can Billy motivate this lad? Doesn't look like it. Get yourself out on loan Dex, you are way better than this.

Why does poor form ALWAYS get blamed on laziness on this forum. What a load of shit.

I don't think its so much getting rid of the 'dross'. But I do think that the sheer number of strikers we have doesn't help morale, focus or confidence. Chances are that you are not going to get that one place in the team no matter how well you perform in training, and even if you do get in you are inevitably dropped for the next game anyway as part of a rotation policy.

Blackstock isn't doing any worse than any of our other strikers really, and none of them are really doing that badly when you think about it.

As has been pointed out we're set up much more for the midfield to push forward than to have a target man. The only time we really try that is with Henderson which has worked pretty well.

How many games has he played? Not many, but he can't pick himself can he?

"More to the point how many goals has he scored"...I think that's answered by your first statement - he's not been playing games!

Top player, would be absolutely between him and Henderson to lead the line, with the other then coming off the bench when the game needs changing.
