Another body. Fairly cheap. Doesn’t count toward the 25 and as for developing by other teams players if he’s better then what we have then who cares ( I’m assuming he is because people who are paid to work this stuff out seem to have decided so). He’s just an asset for Chelsea anyway and will probably be playing for a mid level European team in a year or two anyway so no harm for us.

A big challenge for young, relatively inexperienced players is settling into a new club and a whole new environment generally. Having Danilo already fully established here should be hugely helpful.

I'm anticipating a dynamic new midfield by the end of the window with this kid, Danilo and, hopefully, Dominguez in from Bolognia to add to Mangala and Yatesy?

Also, it shouldn't be overlooked that a deal like this can bolster the budget for another centre-forward option.

It's a risky move to use one of our two Premier League loans on such an inexperienced player. Danilo has far more experience but still seems very raw at times. Hopefully he'll be able to make the big step up and deliver for us.

I don't any problem with developing some other teams player, especially a team who aren't going to be rivals to us.

This does give the lad opportunity and does give us an inside track, if chelsea do deem him expendable next season. Think of some of the players Chelsea have sold at discount, only for them to become world beaters. Current goal thinking with a long term lean.

I honestly also couldn't give a f*** about whose minutes he takes, if he does so deservedly and helps us win games. I wouldn't worry about Yatesy, as he only wants forest to do well and wants to constantly be better, something which is accelerated when you're around better players.

I really don’t understand the negativity.

It’s one player, not even counting towards the 25-man squad. So what, we develop him and he gets better.

This likely means we are close to a big money signing or two, we are trimming the squad and getting quality signings on the cheap. It might even mean Johnson stays? Which he will as per the random pundit article.

I’m genuinely not arsed about how good he is. We shouldn’t be developing the youngsters of other Premier League teams.

Complete understand this point. The sad reality however is if you are not one of the big 6 maybe 7 clubs now with Newcastle then we have to do this to survive in this league in part due to the ridiculous FFP rules that favour be biggest teams.

Good chance it he does well we could get him again next year on loan. He will not be getting anywhere near Chelsea’s first team given what they have spent on midfield players. Also does not hurt to build a good relationship with Chelsea for future loans down the line.

Fully expect this lad to be f***ing brilliant.

That's the only way this makes sense. Using up a domestic loan spot on a teenager that's never played in the Premier League before, with no possibility of it developing into a permanent move makes no sense on the surface of it, so I can only assume he's amazing and the one season we get will be well worth it.

Not really seeing the downsides here. Would people rather he went and had a good season at say Wolves or Burnley then back to Chelsea? Obviously an option to buy would be better, but that's not available. We get someone who hopefully has a positive impact on our season, costs us nothing (bar some wages presumably), and doesn't even take up a squad place.

He'll be better than LO'B so I'm all for it - won't be our only midfield signing and he'll have to earn the shirt so I don't see the issue given how light we are in the middle.

If we can get this one over the line with Murillo too we'll have a nice core of young Brazilians to play with Danilo too... he needs playmates now Gus has gone.

Agree, literally do not understand the negatively. He improves the team and squad so what's the problem? Who knows what happens in a year, maybe we end up signing him permanent. And if he helps lift us up a place or two in the table then great. It's all about progression, a higher finish helps us attract even better players next year.

Nothing wrong with becoming know as the club who develope promising Brazilian talent for the Premier League either - what a stepping stone that could make us!

This guy is clearly an amazing talent but I guess my fear is that this Santos plus Murillo (who apparently can turn his hand to CDM though who we are surely acquiring as a CDM), signals that we’re giving up on the big name permanent CDM signing for another season?
If this is the make or break factor between Johnson staying or leaving it’s an interesting and perhaps pragmatic decision.

He WILL count towards the 25-man squad. If a player is on loan they count, no matter their age.
Someone checked earlier in the thread and this is apparently not the case. For example Colwill didn't count for Brighton last season.

Likely sees the end of both Freuler and LOB in one swoop so don't worry worry about registration concerns as it'll be a net gain regardless. Also a net gain financially as it'll be a wage reduction on Freuler alone and the loan fee will be less than the transfer fee we receive for LOB, assuming we can shift him permanently. Question marks around Kouyate still but think we'll keep him for versatility and ability to cover CB, so maybe his place in squad changes if we spunk on a CB.

Leaves Mangala, Yates, Danilo and Santos as options which is decent although quite concentrated in terms of roles. Don't think it changes the desire to get a beast CDM like Sangare in, with Yates and Danilo ahead of him. Mangala and Santos as bench options is pretty damn good.

The loan aspect is mildly annoying and could mirror Colwill at Brighton.

More a concern for me is, given the number of supposedly interested clubs, is there more pressure to start him over our own CMs.

Also as Worsley said, hate to think we are giving up on other targets for this loan

We're not an established PL side yet. Priority is getting in quality to get to that status, how we get the quality in to achieve that is largely irrelevant. Reassess use of loan market in 12-24 months.

I kind of understand all the differing views on this one. But, for me, does he increase our chances of staying up? If the answer is yes (as far as we can predict), then it’s a yes from me.
