Picking up a point made earlier in the thread.

Why don't our midfielders score more goals? They can't all be used purely in defensive roles, sometimes they must get forward, but there are few attempts on goal from any of them and even fewer goals. Ben Watson, the archetypal defensive midfielder has probably the most goals of our midfielders, why don't the others chip in more?

Silva in particular needs to add goals to his game.

to be fair his a good player but think his battling qualities have overlooked his distribution at times. he does take pot shots from distance, when he should be creating more space rather pointless attack. especially against QPR we should start carvalho with sow behind.

I think SL adjusts his role assignment to the available players and their strengths. Given that your midfielders are not great creatively, he has assigned a more attacking role to the full backs, who are both competent upfront; this means even more defensive duties for the midfielders.

When a player has some attacking asset, SL lets him use it. Yates, for instance, not a creative player by any stretch of the imagination, often steps into the opponent's area because he can charge vertically, in a box-to-box role. Sow doesn't have that attribute, so SL never asks him to do it.

When you'll get better midfielders, you'll see more goals from the midfield.

Think Yates looked much more like that under MON.. Seems to have a very limited role under Lamouchi.. I think this is more to do with Lamouchi playing this way rather than the players we have..

I'm not normally a fan of his but did really well tonight.

I’m in agreement. All I’ve seen with him recently was an absolute waste of a shirt, wondered what Sabri saw in him and was convinced he was just half-arsing it until the end of his loan.

Much better today.

Not been a fan but agree he looked good tonight.

Would be great for him to come in to form and show some of that potential of his in the run in.

Silva scored and Semedo played well? f*** me Alf will be heartbroken  he has not material now till the next game!

Like others, thought Semedo proved last night he's a decent footballer who has the desire to do well here. Showed there is life without Sow, much more dynamic second half with this guys proactivity in midfield.

Great touch to set himself up, shame he didnt bury it.

I honestly can't imagine Carvalho having the same impact if he'd played instead of Yates or Sow, despite Cardiff sitting back.

This Alf?.........

Personally I think he'll just remain a nice hit & miss deep attacking option.

Yeah. Some of these lads are clearly getting used to the rigours of this league. Gonna be a tough season for 'em.

Semedo's more suited to come on & change the game if needed. Bostock won't last the full 90, but we've the CM options to change that so why not.

He'll still contrubute plenty. Preston didn't make things easy for any of our players.

Thank f*** they didn't do a Carvalho on us and get 25m from us for this kid too.

Got talent, got drive, got goals, but so clearly learning his trade still it's unreal.

Fine for the odd goal from the bench. Hope we don't have to rely on him starting too much.

......the Alf who's called it perfectly all season?

Just like I did with Muric.

And Mir

And just like I told you Ameobi was shit-good after 1 pre-season game, and what to expect + why not to get to frustrated with him.

Any many others coz I'm aweseome.

Next you'll be telling me I started a Billy-out campaign

A bit like those racing tipsters who boast about their few successes, but never mention the many flops and donkeys they tip for victory.

Fair point that. Out of the two, i certainly think Pele would have been the better player for this campaign.

Let's hope come Feb we've someone better than the pair of them.

Has looked L1 material for months now. Even though he doesn't offer the same phsyicality, I'd much sooner see Johnson on the bench.

Sab's just gonna have to adapt from having 2 DM's. Recruitment hasn't given him the tools to play the system he has been doing over a full season

How the f*** haven't we replaced this kid in Jan? :dunno:

Yeah, that Alf.

Yeah, that Alf.

Stand by all that.

Pele's doing better at Reading and is more suited to the DM role. I'd sooner have him here o replace Sow. I'm sure many others would too.

Semedo looked L1 material for months & I'm surprised he Johnson didn't get game time.

We should have upgraded Semedo in Jan (obligatory dig - recruitment let us down)

None of that changes just because he's a decent late game option from the bench.

Again, called it all bang on. All you're doing here is fueling my already inflated ego.
