2nd option for Reid

We have cover for most biscuits in the team, but not for Reid. Given his age and his recent injuries, I reckon we should be looking to sign a playmaker for our midfield.

but who???

Up until recently i'd have said Dorrans. Making a new niche for himself at West Brom now though.

Quite simply, you can't replace Reid. His vision and sheer ability is unparalleled at this level.

Yup. We'v got one of the most talented, exciting sides in the country at the moment, but half the reason for that is knackered at any given time. Five games with the ideal 11 and we'd be celebrated. That said, the downside's still pretty good, isn't it? I'd rather have Reid in and out of the side than not amongst it at all.

What we really are is the nucleus of a young, talented, improving and learning side with plenty of star guest appearances, injuries permitting. Look at us that way, this season won't disappoint.

What a surprise, a thread inviting people to reel off a list of possible loan signings.

Not an attack by any means, but promoting from within is what I think this club will be doing.

Oliver Burke is a name to throw into the ring.

its way to early to bring him in. WAY TO EARLY.

looking at the team and the bench tonight, i think we are really in need of a creative midfielder on loan. good defensive and attacking options on the bench, but no one but a unproven 19 year old to shake up the midfield or replace any injuries if needed.

fine perhaps for a top half finish, but we'll need an extra edge to end up in top 2 i think.

Reid, Vaughan, Paterson all not playing tonight, but presumably will get game time soon. Nothing to see here.

well if you say so. neither vaughan nor paterson are creative, nor will they take the midfield by the scruff of the neck and control a game. reid's recent record suggests he isn't going to be playing the majority of games, while we're struggling to score.

Most players with the guile and footballing eye of Reid's quality are likely to be older Premier League players or young established first teamers. Players of his ilk don't come around very often. I'd like to think there might be one in Europe that's available. If we picked up Mancienne and Tesche for what we did, maybe we can scout another German gem.

We've struggled to create since Reid has been out, hence one win in the last six, and the problem is there isn't anyone in the squad who can replace him. Osborn has done well but I would be concerned if he's a first team regular for any length of time. If Reid gets injured again we need to bring in an experienced loanee.

Thing is, you can't replace Andy Reid.

He's he best midfielder in the Championship.

Bold claim, but I believe it. And we can see what his absence from the side has meant with our form, his vision and passing, along with the energetic Chris Cohen, was a large part of our good start to the season.

Reid is known - and feared - by opponents. And that's good.

The bastards should fear our men!

Jamie O'hara at Wolves is a long shot. Castigated by Wolves fans but before his bust up with Wolves fans he was a decent creative player. Might not be ready to go but would be keen to get his career up and running again.
Pep maybe although not a direct replacement for Reid.
Leadbitter a more expensive option and unlikely to leave Boro.

Hasn't O'Hara gone to QPR?

I'd like to see Burke get a run in the middle.

He's not exactly staying wide in the games I've seen, drifting in far too often for my liking. In fact I think his inability to link up effectively with Hunt has harmed our creativity in recent matches. Early games the interplay between the two was fantastic, the overlapping was very effective but in the last few home games they've hardly passed the ball to each other preferring to go it alone and a lot of times running into blind alleys.

On topic, I actually thought Reid had started the season very poorly as part of a central two and was largely ineffective. I'll be happy to see him back though as it might just be that creative spark we are missing.
