Taiwo Micheal Awoniyi

I love the shit or bust approach. It's looking highly likely that we need another but that doesn't have to mean binning off a really f***ing good pl striker.
If we are bringing in another striker I’d be getting rid of Wood over Awoniyi. Older and been out for about the same amount of time?

I always thought we needed 3 strikers. At least Awoniyi now is going to understand / not sulk when we bring in someone else.

if we managed to stay up, how about adebayo from luton ? He has shown that he can score in the pl , he's strong, decent pace and can hold the ball up well,he's unlike to cost that much

I want him to stay with us. He's an important player and knows how to score goals. He's a big guy that scares opponents.

I really like Taiwo as a player and appreciate his humility in a game full of shits.
When fit, he's a top ten striker in the Premierleague.
The problem is, he's hardly ever fit and even when he's played, he's not been match fit.
Him and the others jetting off to Africa for international football every few weeks to play on pitches that make Meadow Lane seem like a show garden then coming back nobbled pisses me off as well.

If we get an offer above £20m in the summer, I'd take that, regardless of league. I don't see the point in him being our main striker if we either can't play him or he's not fit because he hasn't played/trained.

To be honest DB can you see anyone shelling out £20m for him with his injury record? His ability to score goals is proven but his guarantee to be fit and available sadly is not. We need to move on regardless of what division we're in

You've only got to look to the red recent past Kienan Davis for confirmation on whether clubs will take the risk. Both with very similar skillets and completely unplayable when they're at it. The rest of the time they're just unplayable.

Awoniyi's size and strength could also be his weakness. If you Google him as a younger player, you see a useful build no doubt, but nowhere near the size he became in Europe. Even accounting for natural growth, I just don't think he's natural at that size. The amount of extra weight in pure muscle terms has to put strain on his body and could account for his pain and strain issues.

That's based on viewing over medical knowledge, but he looks like he could do with a good rest and a gentler training regime for a while. It's unfortunate that he's reported as being in constant pain and it is something that needs to be addressed in short order.

I'd assumed this comment, which originated with Birtles, was a reference to his groin area post-op and his early rehabilitation.

I'm hoping you're right to be honest. However I fear it's potentially a bit more chronic than that given his accumulated injury record.

The hope is simply that his current issues are being effectively managed to ensure he can perform at his best and be the player we've seen terrorising opposition defenders.

I'm just hoping his operation wasn't botched.

Unpopular take, but if we need 15-20mil in the summer to clear FFP, and we’re planning for a PL season in 2024/25, if sell him and bank the profit.

Go out and buy a new forward, bring another in on loan.

I worry that we're gonna sell off all our better players which Murph sourced like Mangala and Awoniyi, and replace them with shit like Sangare & Akpom.

Reminds me a bit of Britt Assombalonga who was alot slimmer (albeit younger too) when he was at Peterborough - seemed to bulk up alot in his upper body when he came here and I've always suspected that could have been part of what lead up to knee injury. I was there the night it happened and he just seemed to twist and go down, I thought he'd caught his studs but I wonder if the extra weight up top was a contributary factor.

Depends how much we would get for him. I know Chelsea were sniffing in the summer so that would be the most logical in terms of getting an inflated fee.
I imagine everyone else would be put off by his injury record and we would not be able to get much more than 20-25, which I think is too risky to sell for that much. When fit and firing he is a top 10 striker in the league.
