A manager often can't win in these league v cup situations. Steve Cooper used the FA Cup run to good effect by largely selecting a full-strength side whilst we chasing the play-offs, despite some criticism from a certain section of the fanbase.

The thing is if we put some thought into our squad building and not left us with only 2 forwards then we wouldn't have to give them more minutes than we really should be, especially when coming back from injury.

It's not.

We haven't won a single game this season after a midweek cup game in which we went full strength. The one time we rotated in the cup we went and beat Chelsea the next league game.

The cup game choices are the sort of decision which will be a factor in us going down if that ends up happening. It's not the only factor but I'm sick of us brushing stuff under the carpet because it's awkward to acknowledge.

We will make no progress as long as people, and the owner is included here, are happy to be ignorant.

That was more maintaining form then slogging out of form/unfit players in a team that's struggling hard
If we had some reasonable quality coming through from the development squad to step-up for those games then your argument might have more merit. The simple fact is though that Brennan Johnson aside, and particularly since achieving Cat 1 status, the academy has nowhere near matched the owner's investment in terms of graduates. A situation which quite possibly explains the decision to change the personnel at the top of the academy?

In that case the owner is, yet again, not living in reality.

Youth players take ten years+ to develop. We haven't had cat 1 since that long, and half a decade ago we were struggling in the Championship whilst our nearest geographical rivals were either in the PL and thriving or on the cusp of being in the PL, both with academies better than our own, and therefore able to hoover up East Midlands talent.

It shouldn't be a surprise we've not produced much recently whereas the likes of Leicester have managed to Ben Chilwell, KDH etc, and in any case producing Worrall, Yates and Johnson ourselves in quick succession was probably us punching above our weight. How many other crap Championship teams have had three recent academy players playing in the PL and sold £50m of that talent? Genuine question as I don't know the answer but I reckon it's probably closer to zero than it is lots.

The likelihood of having premiership quality youngsters after such short time of being cat 1..really?

The actual thing is that we've been spoiled by the players we have had come through, with a Cat 2 we've been over performing.

Point taken, but I still largely stand by my opinion that there's no one coming through the academy even remotely close as yet to potentially stepping-up into a Championship squad, let alone the PL (although Joe Gardner can hopefully prove me wrong in the near future), notwithstanding how outstandingly well we did on reaching the FA Youth Cup Final a couple of years-or-so ago, only to be hugely disadvantaged by the FA on that occasion.

That said, I've heard some encouraging things about the U-16 year group and below, despite the real possibility of some of those prospects inevitably falling by the wayside in the meantime.

Nuno let a not fully fit Taiwo run around for however long it was in a pointless cup game then people act surprised when a crucial but also rather biscuity player gets injured yet again

Absolutely insane decision from Nuno. Up there with Niakhate at left back in terms of stupidity
Aye, there's a time you need to be flexible with footballing principles.

Some people defend his actions with the fact his principle is to go out and win every game, but you can't do that in a situation like we're in, you have to prioritize everything towards staying up.

Losing to Blackpool 4-1 with an understrength side last season was a better result for us in the long run.

Those of us who paid petrol money and for a ticket to suffer the embarrassment of watching that shit might take a different view Alf.

I'm happy to be ignorant.

After all, ignorance is bliss.

Always been partial to a bit of bliss.

It feels almost treasonous to say this but I wouldn't drop Wood for him, at all unless Wood starts flagging.
It'd be nice to have him back on the bench soon and with no international break until June, at least only we can break him.
But, Chris is the man I think.

It still feels wrong saying it :ROFLMAO:

Wood isn't the type of player to need excessive amounts of pace or power though, so provided we continue to get the ball into him in the box he will keep scoring.

We could play both...

I love Taiwo, but I have to agree.

No point rushing Taiwo back into the starting XI and Wood is the man in form at the moment.

Still, if Taiwo gets back to full fitness then having two good strikers to pick from would be a nice problem to have for a change.

Now, if it were the same Taiwo from this time last season, then.. there would be a difficult decision to make because I think him, Danilo and Gibbs White kept us up last year in that final sprint.

But Wood is doing what Taiwo was doing, scoring more or less every single game for us.

Yeah even if Awoniyi was fully fit you can't take Wood out of the side in this form.

We've spent 15 months adapting to be able to play in a way which gives Wood opportunities and now he's in almost the form of his life and is right at the top of the goal threat charts* we would be stupid to change it.

Use Taiwo as a battering ram for the last 20 if we're desperate until Wood drops out of form.

*One of, if not the country's top strikers on form and Forest still can't win. Typical.
