It is possible to support England as much as you support Forest...it's not like they'll ever meet and your loyalty will be tested.

I don't think I've ever been as disappointed with a Forest defeat as I have been with England being knocked out of tournaments, particularly 96, 98, 04, 06, 16 and 21. I suppose with your club side you know there's another game soon or you go again next season whereas with England you know it could be years before we're competitive in a tournament again.

I’m no longer disappointed in England defeats to any great extent. I was immediately after the final of the Euros but then that disappeared to be replaced by being ashamed of the behaviour of “fans” and the abuse that was dished out.

In a nutshell, I’d have been more gutted by losing the playoff semi or final than anything England do at the World Cup.

Back to Wales, I hope they have a good run because:
- would like to see the Forest boys getting into good form to bring back with them
- want them to keep their manager so they don’t come knocking for a new Welsh coach

I saw some 'opta computer says' data the other day that predicted a Brazil win, with Spain, France Argentina and England as other contenders.

Belgium weren't ranked, interestingly.

It didn't mention Wales.

It is possible but it depends entirely on the individual and how invested they feel in it. I want England to do well but I've got absolutely nowhere near the same enthusiasm for it as I do for Forest

Same here Notcher. I'm patriotic to the point that I'll be delighted if my country wins the WC, but not anything even approaching as much as I was watching my club achieve promotion in May.

Never, ever, discount the Germans at a tournament.
I agree. They may lack a bona fide poacher BUT France didn't have one in 98 either. Unless Dugarry and Guivarch are now considered as such. Henry and Trezeguet were nowhere near the finished article at that time.

I'm an England fan, but this England team is a bit corporate woke for me.
I just can't relate to them. A year or so back I would have said it was because we weren't PL and hadn't been for so long but I still can't.

I will probably just watch England and Croatia this time and maybe Wales or anywhere else our lads are playing but only if I'm not already doing anything else.

Mr Realistic

So he qualifies for Wales through his mother's parents, played for England at various youth levels and was born and raised in Nottingham. Yet feels this huge pride apparently in representing Wales...

Wonder if he regrets throwing his lot in with Wales so early now, give it another year or two of playing in the Premier League and you could see Johnson getting to the same level as Barnes, Bowen, Calvert-Lewin etc who have all had England call ups over the last few years.

I heard Brennan named as likely to be one of the stars of the tournament the other day on some TV prog.

Not sure about that, but the lad is getting noticed.

As Gyros Peter says, I'd love all our lads to rip it up, including all the loanees. As for England, I'm fairly steeled for the inevitable pang of disappointment but it will never be anything like the desolation away to QPR in 2005, Wembley in 91 and of course 93, when it seemed as if all the colour had drained from the world.......
