Cooper said after the notts game that we need more in, the sooner the better. Whether that's to kick a few out or not I don't know but I'd be surprised if we didn't name something close to the full allowable squad of 25.

Had a thought this morning, wouldn't it be good if all transfers had to be publicly played out? So no more twitter rumours or gossip columns, if a club makes an enquiry about a player, financial or not, then it should be publicly announced by the EFL/PL. With the numbers involved too.

So we would know for sure, as fans whether we'd bid for someone or not. This summer has highlighted just how cloak and daggers and mysterious the whole process is. Or maybe I'm just a modern fan used to information at my fingertips and I'm getting twitchy as we haven't bought anyone in 4 days. Who knows....

Nah, it'll never happen. Transfer speculation, rumours and gossip is a money-making industry all on its own. Think of all the clickbait stuff coming out on a daily basis that doesn't actually tell you anything but just regurgitates the same rubbish that every other platform puts out, often with little validity or basis in fact. There's too much coin to be made.

I don't think our transfers being played out in public would benefit us to be honest. It'd alert clubs with bigger pockets to our targets, thus increasing the likelihood of us getting gazumped for players. For a club like us, its better that our business is done under the radar.

Not sure there’s any chance in reality of conducting transfer business on the quiet. Agents will always try to bump up interest by playing as many clubs as they can against each other.

Striker - pretty please, we still look a little light. No point in trying to tough out defensive wins with our rivals, goals will keep us up.
Think in addition to another couple of midfielders (Mangala + one other), we still need another creative/attacking player and a striker too.

Would still love to see us sign both Cornet and Dennis if possible, or suitable alternatives.

Not really, we have lost 10 players loaned out 4 more. We've signed less than we've released currently, and we will get rid of even more of the players we do not need.
It's also all relative.

9 subs on the bench means 20 players kitting up every game. Throw in injuries and suspensions and you need to fill your squad of 25 and still have a handful of kids you can shove on the end of the bench, too.

Much being made on social media about the doubt so many new players will gel into a team, get that, but here is a thing.

The signing of new players was always going to be difficult as home based players are so over priced, personally i think the planning behind the recruitment is genius & deserves to succeed.

Williams & Hennessey, international mates of Brennan.
Dean Henderson on loan plays a big part in persuading former team mate Lingaard to join.

Taiwo, Niakhate & possibly Mangala, all well known to each other from Bundesliga.

If Carvalho & Moreno sign they will help each other in the language barrier (if they don`t speak English), then help the Spanish speaking Scarpa when he arrives from Brazil in January.

We know how easily the loan players integrated into the squad under Cooper last season, all agreed they loved it & best time of their career so far.

This really does appear to be a well thought out model of integrating a mostly new squad very quickly, as we are only introducing players from two other leagues.
The recruitment has been A* Grummitt, really well done - contract lengths, profile of players, positions, prices, all spot on so far. You look at how everybody across the Prem appears to be struggling to sign players, we have blown them out the water.

But... it is still a monumental task to stay up. It is a new team against a league full of teams that never change & probably the strongest Prem ever ATM. You have to assume half the signings will fail just like every window (unless the clubs recruitment play a blinder like last season). However Cooper will get those extra percentages by doing what he does best in man management & coaching. He will be our X factor, but it's still going to be a huge achievement if we survive. The summary of squad values I posted yesterday sums it up of what we are up against.

The point is however that promotion came so quick for us, you can never "get promoted too early" but we are playing the hand we were dealt so well. The recruitment has set us up for years & the makeup of our squad is being built. For me it doesn't matter if we go down because we have set ourselves to come back up with the players we have signed, and then we will come back up with a settled side and can show a more structured ambition. I don't care if people call me defeatist, it's a huge task to stay up, if we do we have had a superb season. If Cooper & Dane are still here in a years time I won't care what would have happened in between because we are in good long term hands.

It's all about mid-table...
We can all speculate and have our thoughts, say this and say that.

It's on that pitch is what matters, I don't give a monkeys about reputations and youtube videos.

If they give their all for Forest to the best of their ability, then nobody can ask for more.

If they dont, Coops will drop 'em and we'll be on their case.

End of.

People forget we can use 5 subs now, so we need to have 5 players worth bringing on.

Great post that. Spot on.

And to add to it.....I think it's going to be nigh on impossible to hit the ground running with a team who have never played together so fully expect to see us really struggle initially.

But give Cooper time to figure out who and what works best, possibly upsetting some big money signings along the way, and I'm confident he'll get us firing and we'll surprise a few people. He's tactically superior to a lot of managers in the PL and we know about his ability to get every player playing above themselves. Add to that the City Ground atmosphere and things could get exciting once again.

It's also comforting to know that should we be struggling or really lacking in an area come Xmas, the big man will pull out all of the stops to buy what we need to get us over the line.

Definitely. We keep hearing rubbish about how many players we've signed, but we're 10 players lighter than we were at Wembley (I'm including Grabban and Lolley in that) from what was a small and largely bang average squad anyway. I think we played the same XI with perhaps one change to it in about 2 months.

So yes we have signed 12 players, but we needed to just to field a side. Now it's a case of adding depth as when the shit hits the fan we really don't want Taylor and Mighten warming up. What we've done and still are doing is unprecedented I'm sure in the history of the Premier League. Nobody had ever got promoted and had to sign up a new squad of players before.

I am sounding like a broken record as usual but anything in August is a bonus for me, our bread and butter starts in September when we play those that will be near the bottom. We will need to be ready by then.

I don't think we can afford to lose every game in August though, especially against Everton. I think we need to be aiming to at least get a couple of results (something from Everton, maybe a point or two from the other fixtures) if we have any real ambitions of survival.

I am not saying we will or can afford too, I am just saying anything is a bonus in the first month for me.

I havent looked but I would imagine that any team that loses it's first 5 games is 100% nailed on to go down.

In fact I just checked. Sunderland did it twice and went down meekly on both occasions. Even Derby didn't do it in their record breaking season.

It is pretty irrelevant anyway because PL results depend so much on who you play.

Almost every team in the bottom half will lose 5 games in a row or close to it at some point of the season. That's the PL.

I think the point is that most promoted teams who do alright start well or at least don't have their pants pulled down for the entirety of August.

I think it's much more difficult psychologically to come back from a really poor start. It'll be mightily tough considering our fixtures and the need for the squad to gel but we can't do owt about that.
