Summer 2022 Transfer Window

As others have said, it's still a bit odd realising that we're in the Prem, but it's becoming more real by the day as the cash required ramps up on transfers and the competition for players is a reminder that we're in with the big boys now.

It's fun having all that money suddenly coming in, but, by golly, it goes quick, too.

But it's the liveliest window we've had for years, so it's, sort of, making up for the boring close season. Even so, I might be looking in to the ladies tonight just for a bit of a fix.

I see that according to the media, having agreed the personal terms with Williams, we can't find the wherewithall to meet Liverpool's asking price, which, according to the media, has been increased beyond our financial means.
With Wolves wanting £30m for MGW (allegedly), and every other player we were supposed to be in for now wanted by bigger clubs here and across the world, we are now expecting to play our opening game with a team cobbled together from the contracted pros, plus a smattering of the U23 and Academy lads.
I have always hated the Premiership for the shite that goes on... I now find I should have bought chest high waders as Forest are now struggling through the deepest, slushiest, smelliest sewerage imaginable.
Theat is if one actually believes the lies and stories in the media, which have about as much basis in truth as the spoutings of our glorious leader Boris "I'm not going to leave here" Johnson.

I’m pretty comfortable with the club’s targets and what we’ve paid so far. They all seem about right.

I don’t think we’ll be ripped off.

I see value in Awoniyi, Niakhite, Williams, Richards, Biancone, O’Brien, Toffolo, Henderson’s wages for a year etc

The ones that make you think “oof bit steep”, like MGW, Kabore, Davis, we don’t seem likely to panic and overpay.

Gibbs-White will rumble on past the season start I reckon and I also wouldn’t be surprised to see Keinan back late on at a sensible price.

Gibbs-White is gone. Forget him.

Yeah I agree with all of that

We seem to be spending very wisely, I honestly think we will see an even bigger outlay closer to the window closing.

If the worst does happen we are in a great position to come straight back up because of the profile of player we are getting. These last few months are transformative for the club.

By the way I love how we are almost the main covered club at the Athletic now. It's well worth a subscription.

If you are subscribed to the Premier League feed half of them are about Forest, and the same in the headlines column.

Dan Taylor seems to cover us full time now along with Tails.

My thoughts on the window and it's simply so far, so good. The owner, who said he doesn’t make Promises, broke that rule whilst picking up the Play off Trophy and declaring to the Nottingham Public (and in other interviews) he just didn’t want Forest to stay up, he wanted to win trophies and get into Europe. What that means then is heavy investment (guessing over £100m on fees and be prepared to pay the wages) it also means if it goes wrong, the players brought in, could benefit us in League below or keep value to sell. SO, the Recruitment is even more essential to get right and Marinkis must be prepared to back his manager (where is Coopers new contract?) and ready to break the bank.

Steve, Dane and the recruitment team, need to be applauded. Sticking to the plan, and arrivals look on paper (well the obligatory YouTube Videos) smart, flexible and quality additions to a squad being built for the Premier League. Lest not forget we have it all to do and come late to the party. We know we have a championship squad, and of course none of the teams in Premier league have lost the amount of first team than we have (Samba, Davies Lowe, Spence, Zinc, Grabben, Garner) that’s 7 places to fill, and I expect to see others depart like Horvath. clearly the starting 11 needs to be built and then the squad.
The only issue with this argument is that we are all seeing what “heavy investment” really means when it comes to the prices of players. 100M doesn’t cover much when clubs are asking 30m for a player that hasn’t played in the prem and was deemed surplus to requirements last season.

It’s a big headache

I speak from experience here Cap'n - negotiation can be a game of patience, especially when you have limited leverage.

Impatient or rushed negotiators usually end up with a worse deal.
If we have agreed a deal with Williams then all the cards are in our hands. After years and years of wasteage, I don't see the point in wasting a few million quid for the sake of a few days extra negotiation.

The club are spending sensibly, for once. We should embrace it, not moan about it.

We seem to be struggling to get the players we apparently want, but the upside is the number of players available. Compared to our recent forays into the transfer market, the range of players is huge.

Names are popping up all the time, both linked to us and in general. It would be nice to get our first choice I suppose, but the window is long and the numbers are high, so I'm sure that by the end we will have a serviceable team well able to represent the Original Reds.

Supposedly asked Inter about striker Andrea Pinamonti, article suggests he's already agreed to go to Atalanta though, they just need to agree a fee with Inter:

Oh well perhaps Silenzi has improved with age? Must be cheap now too.

Have to respectively disagree with you there. We've signed 4 that we've wanted, 3 of which the selling clubs would've loved to have kept, the other being a loan. We're still pretty early in the window too, so these aren't fall back options.

There's always going to be competition for the big fish and in that respect, we may find things difficult but I certainly wouldn't say we were struggling. We may not get our first choice in some positions but so be it.

I don’t see any struggles to worry about. Four through the door already, including a record fee to lay down a marker of our intentions

We haven’t wasted time chasing Spence, we haven’t entertained having our pants pulled down by Villa on the price for Keinan. Clear plan in pace. Decisive moves. Multiple targets that meet certain criteria (age, character, leadership as well as performance)

Taking the time to NEGOTIATE for certain targets like MGW, Williams. They might not all work out in the end but we won’t be without suitable plan B-Zs for those that don’t land. I’m still confident we’ll get both the above.

Look over at Fulham and their manager complaining about lack of signings. With every new piece in our jigsaw we become a more exciting option for the next target

Going to need a few bargains (Harry Toffee Crisp, loans) but there’s still time for us to make a marquee signing or two before the windows end

All good stuff so far. Stay positive people.

Nobody has signed more than 4 players so far so we're equal on the in door. I'd say we're chugging along nicely and I'm really pleased at the calibre we're signing whilst not going mental with the amount we're spending.

Very happy so far.

All moves look great and purposeful so far. Picking up the transfer pace wouldn't hurt though. I suppose the idea is to get the defence sorted first, because they will need time to gel and a properly drilled defence will be critical in the Premier. I am not that worried about the one missing piece of the puzzle upfront, but midfield is still a riddle.
