According to a usually very trustworthy reporter with close ties to the club, Carvalho signed for only 1.5 years, i.e. for the duration of his contract with Forest. This means that there's no real faith in him. We're basically just taking over remaining transfer fees and his contract with you, plus the infamous "undisclosed fee".

Let's hope, for his sake, that he manages to turn things around over here.

Thankful I’m of an age that means I’m not part of the “best player I’ve ever seen play for Forest” brigade. My condolences to those of you that are. Goodbye Joao and good luck.

If you're taking over remaining Benfica payments then the undisclosed bit will be £0.

18 months is long enough for him to do something at a club where's he's surrounded by better players and will get good off the ball movement. He only needs to do that well in ten games or so to warrant an extension or get sold on.

There must be right dross teams at the bottom of the Greek league he can play against to showcase that?

There were times when, playing for Karanka, he was spellbinding.
It's a shame that he never really adapted to championship football and I hope Greek football suits his style of play better.
Good luck Joao, thanks for the memories, there are some very good ones.

Hope he does well, he has a great environment to try in with a manager of the same nationality who looks to have a real knack for polishing rough diamonds not to mention European football, in many ways he's fallen upwards but I do get the feeling that if he doesn't make an immediate impact then he will probably have his remaining year on his contract on loan at Aris.

Good night, Sweet Prince.

I echo the sentiments about it being a shame. A young lad with some potential and ability, coming into a club which changed managers and players every 6-12 months. He could have maybe worked a bit harder at times but for whatever reasons he barely got a chance for the last 2 years.

He gave us some good moments and seems a nice lad but ultimately it's time to move on.

Oh yeah and having that ridiculous transfer price hanging from his neck constantly. There's no doubt to me it was to get in bed with Mendes and that went pretty horrendously.

Not Joao's fault one bit and wish him all the best for the future he never sulked and always tried but the little flashes of brilliance were never going to be enough hopefully now we have Dane Murphy no ridiculous transfers like this will happen again think we all wanted it to work but it was never going too

Don't let that worry you, he's still finding a way to blame Vrentzos for players signed this season.

Probably a victim of the topsy turvy nature of this football club. Wish him all the best.

No he was a victim of the fact he wasn’t able to adapt in a professional environment. Truth is every training session will have been an opportunity for him to
Understand, develop and make an impact which he manifestly failed to do.
We can disagree all we like about his supposed ability, or lack of it but the facts are he didn’t have what it took. I wish him well too but I won’t be putting money on him making it.

Yes maybe he didn't do enough individually to make it work here but I am 100% certain the club didn't do enough to give him the chance to be a success either.

The team was built around him under Karanka and we were scoring for fun, as soon as he left the club our goal output pretty much halved for the next 2 years.

What's done is done but when you invest the money we did you have to back the player no matter what and we didn't.

With respect, I couldn't disagree more. I think this is very rose tinted. He was never anywhere near spellbinding in my book. Rarely much better than average.

Seems like a decent fella to be fair, so though I'm not overjoyed to see him move on, I'm not really that bothered either. I'd like everyone we sign to succeed, but obviously that won't happen. Wish him luck though.

It's Alf I feel sorry for.

He's starting to run out of people to blame.....

Figgy and Carvalho gone within a few days of each other. Light a candle for Alf. :sob:

Some people are good at a certain thing, I don’t think everybody is ‘adaptable’. He can’t devlop pace, he’s not going to turn into a defender.

Same reason why McGugan was useless anywhere else on the pitch.

People like Chris Cohen, Ben Osborn, Jack Colback, Ryan Yates are all rounded and have a work ethic and desire you can’t really teach.

Rzar-I know I might sound like an angry man (I'm taking the therapy-honest) going on about this player but I found/find the idea that we build a team around anyone in the modern game bizarre. I mean Brennan is high quality but the last thing we need is to structure the team around him-if hes going to be really successful and reach his potential he has to be able to play right the way across the front line in various formations. Arter might argue that he was told the team would play a certain way around him as a midfield lynchpin when he came-whats the difference?. I see all this stuff about him being "sublime" (for 8 games) under Karanka and us not being fair to him and I don't understand it, or what people were watching. Ultimately as someone said higher up I think its because I've been lucky enough to watch some really good players over the years at our great club-players who frankly Carvalho wouldn't have been fit to lace their boots.

Build is maybe the wrong word but set up to play to his strengths. It is what we are doing with Johnson at the minute.
