Steve Cooper will always be the MAN!

I don't know much about Cooper to be honest. Can someone summarise his football in a pithy sentence?

Possession based defensive football, wing backs are the most important part of his side.

Someone may have more knowledge than myself but that’s what I saw from him personally.

Love how people are complaining about the new manager before he even signs, it's kind of like maybe the manager and players aren't solely to blame for the situation we're in and that its the board who have royally f**ked us the last 4 years.

He supposedly left Swansea because they couldn't match his ambition so why the feck will Cooper rock up at Forest.

If he does I'm already questioning his common sense / sanity.

Maybe his ambition was to manage in League 1?

This new manager was the first opportunity for the new CEO to showcase that changes had occurred within the board that royally f**ked us.

My complaints are that, Steve cooper shows that there has been no change to the board that royally f**ked us.

This sense of despair about all things Forest risks of turning into a self-fulfilling prophecy. If everyone around Forest(fans, managers, coaches, decision-makers, journalists, social media commentators, etc.) expects the worse to happen, there's a very good chance it will.

Just interested to get some opinions on the Steve Cooper rumours.

Would he be someone who you would like at the City Ground?

Works with youth, gets top 6 finishes, looks like Platt. A bit of a Frankenstiens monster of some of our previous managers.

Does anyone actually believe it's solely down to managers and players? I think any Forest fan would say the ownership is another shit show. That doesn't mean Hughton doesn't deserve criticism, there's plenty of blame to go around.

If transfermarkt is to be believed, both Jake Bidwell and Matt Grimes (two players who flourished under Cooper) are both free agents in 2022. That would solve of left back and central midfield problems if he can keep us up and convince them to join us!

But anyway, no overly enthusiastic about Cooper as I wanted someone handsome and German, but you cannot grumble about his credentials. Has an excellent knowledge and background for young players and bringing them through, those connections have also helped him secure a number of high profile loans from Prem teams. Has had relative success at Swansea despite their cost cutting measures. His preferred 3-5-2 formation arguably fits the squad what we have at the minute.

Not being funny but Swansea’s cost cutting and financial troubles have been pretty common news so not sure your argument stacks up.

But they still had the benefit of parachute payments and also a squad which had PL players either younger ones on loan from other clubs or those who played for them in the PL.

Unless you design yourself to yo-yo, that will be common in most relegated clubs - Swansea had a few years in the PL so had moved away from doing what WBA, Norwich and Fulham seem to do which is get promoted and plan to get relegated again straight after.

Given the resources available I'd still expect most managers to have got that Swansea side into the play offs so not hugely convinced on Cooper.

Re: Wudja/Wuntya? - Steve Cooper

At this point, I’m absolutely ambivalent.

Their are so many problems at the Football Club, that the appointment of yet another Manager (who will be, by my reckoning the 22nd of the last decade if you include caretakers) will face so many of the same issues that all the others did, means probably there’ll be little to celebrate with him either.

It’s like, what’s the point? Forest are a basket case, and that’s it, and the current regime seem to have no plan as to how to address that.

From a Swansea fan I used to go to school with who watches their games

Decent manager at championship level. Got good knowledge of youngsters and decent connections with Liverpool.

Personally think his tactics are very poor and rarely uses his subs that I thought was really odd. Especially when we’re drawing, thinking just put an attacking player on and win the game. Just settles for point instead of going to win the game.

Be a good appointment for forest. They can’t get any worse

Paul Taylor seems fairly certain Cooper is the man we want

Nixon seems to suggest that there's a massive compensation due to Swansea if you hire him, if I understand correctly. Some clause in his agreement when he quit from Swansea.

Only Forest could pay a hefty compensation package for an out of work manager.

Wonder what will be more, the compensation to hire him today? or the compensation when we sack him next year?

Voted yes but it really does depend on who is making the appointment and why.

If it's being done by some nob in the boardroom who has seen him get to the playoffs twice in the last two seasons without much thought after that then we're on the same path as usual, but I don't think that is the case this time... I believe he's on Murphy's list and I think you can see why; likes working with and improving youth, gives a clear pathway from academy to first team, good contacts for loan signings, young and can fit into a longer term strategy. Negatives are questions over style of play but will it be worse than Hughton? Are Swansea fans spoiled by exciting managers who have come before during their Prem time perhaps?

I think it looks like the early shoots of some kind of coherent strategy from the top down, gonna take some time to flourish though and it could be a bit of a white-knuckle ride for the rest of this season.

There is some justification for this view, though?

Recruitment - Failure
Player development - Failure
Commercial activities - Failure
City Ground Renovation - Faulire (the Ground is a shabby mess)
Fan Engagement - Failure

Apart from the Academy gaining Category One status, the current regime have contributed absolutely nothing to the improvement of Nottingham Forest.

It is not unfair to say that the club is in a similar state to when it got relegated to League One in 2005.
