Claudio Yacob - „El Bastardo“

MASE

Up-Front
By all accounts Sabri likes two 8s at the base. If its true, not sure Yacob will have enough going forward.

Thought Yacob was good today (as he usually is).

Alfreton midfielders put in some challenges early on but learnt quickly on he's gonna fight them back.

I'm more surprised to hear that they managed to get anywhere near him Rzar. He must still be feeling a little rusty following his summer break.

I think that starting XI today is their base for this season. Along with some players in the 2nd half team and new signings. Yacob may have limitations to what Sabri wants but he may be the back-up different type at the base.

Deciding on Cash, Figgy, Osborn, Yates, Walker , Ansarifard and obviously new signing Ameobi. Then also Milo, Darikwa, Guedioura.

Watson CB feels like a stop gap and the fact that it was Bridcutt to go to LB so Osborn can play midfield also says a bit about him. Just can't see him liking Murphy. His CF at Rennes was Wahib Khazri who really is a fast short-type who plays often on the wing.

Yacob is a good player at Championship level. He may not be the most polished or athletic but it's rare he lets the side down.

He does the basics well and has an appetite for sticking the boot in and the cynical stuff that we'll definitely be needing this season.

Pure DMs and a lack of mobility doesn't look up Lamouchi's street either to be fair but no doubt there are others sorting our squad composition and in dialogue with Lamouchi.

Would like to keep him as a squad player but won't lose any sleep if he goes and we get a decent fee.

GBG will be happy

But I won’t

Yacob and Pelé are just two of the several names that have been put forward for weeks now. I'm just not sure what sort of midfielder we're interested in, however. These two, for example, are totally different from one another. I suspect our manager, pretty much like your new one, prefers none of his two midfielders to be the classic holding midfielder.

We'll see soon. Now that we signed a striker, the only real transfer left is the one of the midfielder and it should be over by next week at the very latest.

It's becoming more and more clear that our manager is looking for a no. 8, not for a holding midfielder like Yacob:

Are Oly still looking to make anymore key signings GBG/ Karteo? I saw last night you were linked to the Moroccan and Monaco midfielder Youssef Aït Bennasser. I only wonder because he looks like he'd be a great fit in our midfield; looks to be a great passer from deep and a good dribbler with good physicality (a bit like a young Guedioura) and as we know sometimes the media tend to confuse our targets, although this guy might be a bit above our level sounds as though he has offers from other European clubs too.

We enquired officially and the answer was that he is not available for a loan and purchasing him would cost in excess of 12m euros. So, yes above our level.

The next name on the list is Braga's Fransérgio, another no. 8.

I don't think Yacob coming to us is very likely at the moment.

f*** me I need to learn to read.

I can see Yacob leaving if the right deal is there. We have him, Watson, Guediora getting on a bit and still see Cash as a CM in the long term, Yates is ok and hopefully we’ll sign another 2 younger, better first choice players.

Nottingham's dirty secret
Need to keep 100% if we dont get Colback.

Silva looks like he could complement him well as it's unlikely we'll be playing 2 outright DM's and Semedo lacks experience in that role and could either be a huge success or complete flop...

Hope yacob will play this season, felt like a massive waste last season

Silva and Carvalho plus Osborn is a bit of a height-deficient midfield.
Claudio is a bit bigger.
Hopefully Samedo will join to give those extra inches and a bit more bite.

If he is a regular this season, we won't be getting promoted. One of a number of midfielders (along with Guedioura, Yates, Pele, etc) that failed to nail down a starting spot last season.

The only midfielder at the club who was top 6 quality was Colback, who wasn't ours. The lack of quality in midfield at the club is one of the main reasons we failed last season, the solution to this problem won't come from sticking with the same group of players who weren't good enough last season.

Regardless of whether Yacob stays or goes, we need better if we are going to challenge for the top 6 this season.

With Colback and Semedo, you have an excellent midfield combining youth (Yates, Semedo), experience of British football (Yacob, Colback), an excellent footballing age (Silva), high energy and combativeness (Yates, Colback, Silva, Semedo), a good reading of the game (Yacob, Colback, perhaps Silva), defensive resolve (Yacob) and creativity (Silva). It may be a midfield with fewer creative midfielders than Lamouchi would probably want, but it's a good midfield.

If either Colback or Semedo is out of the picture, the manager will probably require a mifielder more like Silva.

I suspect Ben Watson will soon be getting the Murphy treatment of he hasn't already.

I suspect that the "Yacob to Oly" thing has chances only under specific circumstances late in the transfer window: if we sell Camara and if you get Colback, then it's possible and reasonable that he comes.
