Worst Performance by a Red

Fitzcarraldo

Ian Storey-Moore
Now we've found our way back to Eden, it's time to reflect on our time in purgatory. Only then will we be able to reconcile all that has gone with all that is and is to come.

Lay down that memory of an individual performance that was that bad it's nested itself in the darkest recesses of the conscious. Time to bring it forth and let it go.

Let us heal collectively.

The whole f***ing team against Chester.

Yeah, that match.

Oldham away. I was embarrassed to be there.

f*** you, Megson.

Back in the Paul Hart era we took Adam Proudlock on loan as a striker. Think he played against West Brom, and was totally shite, unfit, uninterested and a waste of space.

I might also include the 2 occasions I saw David Friio subbed off after about 30 minutes, neither time due to injury.

Christ, Adam Proudlock. I remember that being Hart's first signing back when we didn't have a pot to piss in and him writing enthusiastically about him in the programme notes.

He was absolute dross.

Chambers in McClarens last game.

Anything Andy Cole did.

Seem to remember John Curtis having an absolute shocker against someone but can't remember who.

In more recent times some of Bongs, Arters and Jenkinsons performances have been an utter disgrace to be honest but none particularly stick out.

Chester away is the worst I ever saw us perform. Plymouth, Woking, Accrington and Scunthorpe also gruesome.

Not quite in the same category but what about Rochdale under Psycho? Or even losing 3-0 at Derby under Kinnear.

Think the John Curtis game was probably Coventry away where we just surrendered.

Going back to Adam Proudlock, I just popped on Wikipedia to see what eventually came of him. This quote from a teammate at Grimsby in the late 2000s pretty much confirms my suspicions:

Speaking of Proudlock, Linwood said "You’d finish training, Adam Proudlock on the Whatsapp group would say “lads, I’m just having a pint at the Laceby Arms”, and the whole squad would be in there. 15 pints, easy. It was the only pub we could get away with it. It was in a tiny little village, and we were dead inconspicuous – we used to go in our kits! Even I turned round one day and said “this has gone too far.” We’d had a Monday session – straight after training, we finished boozing about five that morning, and then we were in for training at nine the next day. Adam Proudlock and Peter Sweeney came to pick us up, and both were just the most unbelievable players who had just tossed it off at this point. Those two came to pick me up after a session, and we were drinking cans of Fosters on the way to training, which is out of order because I f***ing hate Fosters!"

I loved him, but Crossley when we let in 7 at Blackburn?
I don't recall Crossley or anyone else doing an awful lot wrong in that game in terms of errors. Blackburn were just amazing, Shearer and Bohinen especially.

I remember Bryn Gunn having a stinker against Peter Barnes of Manchester City in a League Cup tie at
Maine Road in 1975.
Not that Bryn was a bad player but he had a nightmare that evening.

Didn't Proudlock come as a potential future swap deal with someone going in the opposite direction, but neither deal happened and both players returned to their parent clubs? Harewood?
